The EU Playstation blog has broken the news that an official phone app is coming to the Android and iPhone which will offer integration into the Playstation Network. You’ll be able to check your account status, friends list, and trophies. It’s also got a pretty great looking interface, which is very similar to the PS3 and PSP appearance.
Currently version 1.0 is only coming to Europe. Fear not US users, the app is coming to the States as well. The US will get the app starting with version 1.1, which is going to add support for Playstation.Blog comments.
No release date has been posted. App requires iOS 4.0 or Android OS 1.6.
UPDATE: The app will be free. There are no plans for Blackberry to get support.
Dead Space YouTube Channel Launched December 17, 2010

I’ve been looking like crazy for a while to find a source for all of the official Dead Space trailers on YouTube with very little luck. Unfortunately while EA has a pretty well maintained YouTube channel which all of their games will usually get premiered on, Dead Space 2 has had no such luck getting trailers hosted on it in a timely manner.
The Dead Space 2 developers have announced today they are launching their own YouTube Channel for Dead Space content. While it doesn’t have the full collection of trailers yet (and trust me once they do, I’ll be migrating most of the embedded trailers I have here over to it), they did create one very funny video to launch with it. You see, Issac Clarke is just a normal guy like you and me. But adjusting to the regular work day is kind of tough for him.
Dead Space 2 is coming for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 January 25th, 2011.
UPDATE: They did in fact upload a lot of game trailers to the new channel officially, so I changed some of my embeds on some of my older posts to the new videos. You shouldn’t notice any problems with ones that have been updated, but I did actually post up NEW videos in news articles I previously wrote where I wanted to post a video and just couldn’t because there wasn’t an official one on YouTube that was available. You can see the new videos here and here.
Uncharted 3 First Gameplay Footage December 17, 2010

Here’s the first footage released of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Previously this had been shown on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, but this footage is unimpeded by Fallon’s terrible playing of it. In it we see Nathan Drake and his partner Victor “Sully” Sullivan trying to escape from a Chateau on fire. I’m having serious Indiana Jones flashbacks with this one (not the bad one).
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is coming November 1st, 2011 exclusive to the Playstation 3.

Everyone knows that Epic is hard at work at making Gears of War 3, but Epic is also working on a game called Bulletstorm, which is a harken back to the prototypical First Person Shooter.
But today, Epic announced that they’re going to offer Bulletstorm players a bit more than just a game, they’re going to offer a chance to play the Gears of War 3 beta, just for buying the Bulletstorm Epic Edition.
Bulletstorm Epic Edition is coming Feb 22nd for $59.99US. Other features for it include 25,000 experience points, special weapons and armor, and visual upgrades for the game’s leash. Gears of War 3 is an Xbox 360 exclusive and is coming Fall 2011.
Dead Space Aftermath Release Date December 14, 2010

I’ve been really impressed by the Dead Space IP since it’s release in 2008. While they released a very impressive game, EA also released other things at around the same time of the game’s release. An animated comic series was released for free to various sites including Xbox Live Marketplace, Playstation Network, and various PC sites. It was based upon the Dead Space graphic novel. But what was also interesting was that they released a companion animated movie, Dead Space Downfall, to DVD and Blu-Ray around the same time, which was not only visually stunning (especially in HD) but set the stage for the events of the first game.
Well, Dead Space 2 is on its way, and a new companion animated movie, called Dead Space Aftermath, is on its way as well.
Dead Space Aftermath is coming January 25th, 2011, for DVD and Blu-Ray Disc (BD). This is day and date with the release of Dead Space 2.
Background Image Request December 14, 2010

I have been doing more tweaking on the site’s backend for more behind the scenes improvements and I noticed background images are now supported by the site. This would make for a great way to improve the site’s appearance, but the problem is that if I do a background image, it might make it hard to actually read the articles on top of them. If anyone has any interest at all in submitting a possible background image for the site, feel free to comment! I’d be more than happy to credit you for your assistance.
Dead Rising 2 Case West Release Date December 14, 2010

The next chapter of the Dead Rising storyline is going to be coming to Xbox 360 players. Frank West, hero of the first Dead Rising game, will join up with Chuck Greene, the hero of the second Dead Rising game, in order to expose the truth of the zombie outbreak. Dead Rising 2: Case West was announced shortly before the release of Dead Rising 2, but until now a release date or price has not been announced. Now it has. I must say, I’m happy to see that Frank is healthy, the true ending of Dead Rising was a bit ambiguous as to his fate.
Dead Rising 2: Case West is coming for 800 MS points on December 27th, 2011. It will be exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Batman: Arkham City VGA Trailer December 14, 2010

The newest trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum has found it’s way onto the internet after it’s VGA debut. We get a good look at what can possibly be the main baddie for this game, and what his motivations are. Hugo Strange, a famous staple of Batman’s rogue’s gallery, is seen for the first time, and as he did in the comics, he knows Batman’s secret identity.
Batman: Arkham City is coming Fall 2011 to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Spike TV Video Game Awards Show Review, One Day Later December 13, 2010

I’ve had a day or two to sit down and digest everything that was presented over the course of this year’s VGAs, as well as read a lot of comments by others who had seen it. I have to say that the initial enjoyment I felt when watching the VGAs (and you can see it in the live video review) has passed and now I can really talk about overall what I felt about the show. Like with anything, you really need some time to digest your opinions, and while that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop videotaping live reactions, I’m going to start taking them with a grain of salt.
It seemed like the awards were taking a backseat to the premieres tonight. This is good, since a lot of games won awards I think a lot of people will disagree with. When I was recording the video I was hesitant to really express how I felt about some of the games that won a few of the awards, because I was concerned that the people who enjoyed those games would be angry I would insinuate that their opinions were not as valid as mine, and I don’t want to do anything like that. That said, people write reviews of things. Reviews are opinions. A reviewer is going to make someone mad eventually! I mean seriously, it’s not like any movie I enjoy has won an Oscar in the last 30 years. I’m aware I express a minority opinion in most cases, but I have seen a lot of comments that have cried foul about a lot of the winners at the awards. In other cases, some of what I felt were the best games of this year weren’t even nominated. Then there were the ones that looked so obviously rigged it’s not even funny (Seriously, the host actually won an award for a game nobody I know actually played).
I think what was really telling about it was the fact that at least a half-dozen awards were just announced in a thirty-second segment just before one commercial break. What? These developers don’t get to stand up and make a speech? What makes these awards any less important than the others? This is an awards show. Show the awards! What do you think you’re hosting, the Grammys or something?
Some of the jokes were funny, some weren’t. Some of the presenters were decent, some weren’t. My video review broke all that down already.
At least this year it didn’t feel like they were mocking their audience. It has been an epic improvement over the past few years, and this year did indeed feel like a MAJOR step forward with the show. If I may make a suggestion on how to further improve it (which I have already mentioned), why doesn’t Spike instead go for an Academy ™ system of voting? Get all the best developers, game gods, critics, journalists and independent bloggers to place a vote in each system? Keep internet polls out of it, they can be stuffed far too easily. It’s the best option in this genre, and it is used in other mediums. I’m sure many developers, even the super famous ones, will be more than happy to voice their opinions and place their votes for you. If you want to improve your image, start with the awards themselves. The rest will fall into place.
So, VGAs, I will see you next year.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Announcment Trailer December 12, 2010

It’s coming. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Decption, the next installment of the major PS3-exclusive franchise, is in development. As you can see from this initial full trailer, Drake’s going to the Arabian Desert this time for his next epic treasure-hunting journey. We also see the return of his partner and mentor since the first game, “Sully” Sullivan, although no other series characters make an appearance in this initial trailer as Drake searches for the famous “Atlantis of the Sands”.
The first game offered a dramatic simulation of water. The second game revolutionized the simulation of snow. This game looks to do the same to sand. Gameplay is expected to be shown on the Jimmy Kimmel show on the 13th of December.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is coming November 1st, 2011 exclusive to the Playstation 3.
