Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have released a new trailer to celebrate the release of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. It shows some of the game’s new mechanics and introduces new players to the motion control features of the Poké Ball Plus controller. It I think I ended up seeing this trailer or one just like it air before the theatrical release of Pokémon: The Power of Us.

The Dark Pictures – Man of Median Dev Diary 1 November 30, 2018

I was a huge fan of Supermassive’s work on Until Dawn for the PlayStation 4 and its looking like their next major franchise series is shaping up to be just as good if not better. The first new title of their game anthology series, Man of Median, revolves around salvagers finding the wreck of a ghost ship. This new developer diary offers a behind the scenes look at what went into creating that ship.
The Dark Pictures – Man of Median is coming in 2019 to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

This new episode has officially been called “Turf Wars” and it picks up shortly after the events of the last DLC. Will Hammerhead pay for what he did in the last DLC? Play and find out.
Each Spider-Man DLC goes for a price of $9.99 US. The bundle of all three missions costs $24.99. People who have the retail Collector’s Edition or the Digital Deluxe Edition will get this DLC for free at no extra charge. You’ll need to download the game’s newest patch to play.

Spider-Man Turf Wars DLC 2 Trailer November 14, 2018

The second of three downloadable expansions for Spider-Man on the PS4 is just days away from release. After the shocking cliffhanger ending of the first one, this next episode seems to focus on Hammerhead, the villian pulling the strings behind the scenes of the first DLC mission. Here’s the first official trailer for the next DLC, Turf Wars.
Three new costumes are going to be included in the second DLC mission. The first is the MK1 Spider Armor. This is a cool looking armor with a classic silver and black color scheme. The second is the Iron Spider armor modeled after its comic version. Since it was created by Tony Stark it has strong Gold and Red colors, matching those of the Iron Man armor. Finally the biggest surprise of all, the Spider-Clan suit from Marvel Mangaverse. It actually has an anime inspired look and style, and reminds me of the look of cell shaded games from the early 2000s.
You’ll be able to play this DLC alongside everyone else on November 20th. The price is $10US for the individual episode or $25 US for a bundle with the other two. People who own the Digital Deluxe Edition or Collector’s Edition of the game will be able to get this DLC at no extra cost.
Spider-Man is out now exclusively on the PlayStation 4.

Rest In Peace, Stan Lee November 12, 2018

It is my unfortunate duty to inform you all that the man known to the world as Stan “The Man” Lee, creator of some of the greatest comic book characters ever, has died at the age of 95. His life’s career is far too long to include in this brief posting, but I felt that something needed to be said about his passing and why he had such a tremendous impact on me as a person.
The Man joined Marvel Comics during its golden age and was inspired by greats such as Joe Simon (creator of Captain America) and Jack “King” Kirby. He would then go on to start what would become the Marvel Universe with the first issue of Fantastic Four. He didn’t stop there, he would go on to create and co-create more great heroes including Spider-Man, The Hulk, and Daredevil. These weren’t Gods, these were men and women with problems like you and me, characters with pathos. The Fantastic Four had to live their super hero and their private lives in the open. If a supervillian decided to attack their home, they would run the risk of getting sued by their neighbors who could have gotten caught up in the unfortunate crossfire. Spider-Man was a gifted scientist and photographer but always had problems making ends meet. The X-Men were constantly harassed and scapegoated due to the fact that they were born Mutants. The fact the X-Men used their mutant abilities to protect humans from the mutants who wished to do harm was always conveniently forgotten by the world press. Daredevil received his powers from the accident which permanently blinded him, making him one of the first disabled super-heroes in history.
Being the creator of some of the most enduring modern fiction over the past fifty years gave him plenty of opportunities to sit and chat with the public. He has made countless appearances at fan conventions and appears in tons of documentaries about the history of the comics industry. Over a decade ago, he sat for an extended interview with Warner Bros Pictures as they prepared a documentary on the history of their Batman films. Stan was actually good friends with the late Bob Kane (co-creator of Batman) and provided some insight on the comics industry at the time. Most people interviewed for the documentary were credited by their name and title or role when appearing on screen. For example Jack Nicholson was credited as The Joker, Tim Burton’s credit was Director/Producer. In that documentary Stan Lee’s credit was simply “The Man”, the most fitting title he has ever been given and that is how I’ve referred to him ever since.
Most people probably remember Stan’s first major film appearance as himself in the Kevin Smith film Mallrats. I think Hollywood considers him good luck, because he has appeared in personal cameos in countless Marvel films since then. Most recently he appeared as Peter Parker’s bus driver in Avengers: Infinity War. Sometimes he has even played himself, like in the film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where he tried to attend the wedding of Mr Fantastic and Sue Storm but was rejected for not being on the guest list. I would like to think the issue was rectified and he was allowed to attend before the ceremony began. He made a surprise digital appearance in the recent Spider-Man game for the PS4. He is even in the preshow video for Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride at Disney’s California Adventure Park.
Rest In Peace. Long Live The Man.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee Preview November 10, 2018

Early this morning we had the pleasure to take part in the Pokémon Let’s Go Road Trip. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have been driving across the US making stops in several major cities with the intention to offer live previews of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! We received a live demo of both games and got a closer look at the new Poké Ball Plus controller. What did we think? Read and find out.
Before we start to talk about the games I want to talk a bit about the exclusive controller that is being designed for these games, The Pokéball Plus controller. Sadly, we couldn’t get any pictures of it, but the Pokéball Plus is slightly smaller than I expected it to be. That all said, its weight still felt comfortable in my hand. It has a thumbstick on its face that has a nearly identical look and feel to the left analog stick from a GameCube Controller. Pressing the center thumbstick inwards acts as the controller’s A button. Pushing the top lid of the ball inwards acts as the B button. It also has motion sensors and HD rumble. As a sphere, it can be difficult to know which way is up but I can tell you it has to be oriented with the red top facing the television to function properly. Nintendo expects players to be able to play the entire game with the Plus Controller if they choose to do so, but it can also be played with traditional Joy-Con controllers in whichever configuration the player wishes.
We played both the Pikachu and Eevee versions of the demo and we will talk about the differences bereeen the two as they are relevant. We did not get to demo either game in tablet mode (although we can confirm the game does support tablet mode), so this write-up is based entirely on what we saw on the Samsung HDTVs the Demo Units were connected to.
The demo for both games started as we took control of Trainer Green at the entrance of the Veridian Forest. In both cases Pikachu and Eevee were dressed in cosplay wearing costumes and hats that matched the clothes their trainer was wearing. We were given instructions from Professor Oak to explore the forest and do everything we could in it. The forest environment was absolutely beautiful. Its layout was pretty close to my memory of Pokémon Yellow, but it’s graphics were of a level all its own. Game Freak was clearly going for a stylized look that matched the 3D environments I remembered in the Generation 6 and 7 Pokémon games, only this time they were in Full HD 1080p.
Players of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y might remember one of the first forest environments you encountered in those games. Their layout was actually taken from Generation 1’s Veridian City map, but most players couldn’t tell due to the game’s updated graphics. Playing in this environment felt like I was replaying that section from X and Y, only now I could play it at a smooth framerate in Full HD. Game Freak needs to be commended for the fact they were able to recreate their art style despite all the new pixels offered by the Nintendo Switch.
There were three things you could do in the demo. Navigate, battle and capture. We are going to talk about navigation first. The player moves around the environment by using the controller’s analog thumbstick. The player can move diagonally and will walk faster depending on how far away from the center the thumbstick is moved. If you encounter an item on the ground, you can pick it up by moving next to it and pushing the A button. Pokémon battles can start by crossing a rival trainer’s path. Pokémon captures can be triggered by walking up to a wild Pokémon in the game world. We did not get to experience the two-player couch co-op mode, so we can’t comment on it even though players will be able to slip into two-player at the game’s launch.
Battling has not changed much in this game from previous ones. Just like in previous games, you’ll find rival Pokémon trainers standing around throughout the game environment. Cross their path and it’ll trigger a Pokémon battle. Our Pikachu or Eevee came out to battle first, but the player can still keep six Pokémon on their active roster as usual. The battle menu is almost exactly the same as it has been in previous games, you have as many as four attacks to choose from, you can use an item, or you can swap out your battling Pokémon for a different one in your active roster. That all having been said, your starter Pokémon, be they Eevee or Pikachu, will come with some special attacks you have never seen before. Eevee, even though it hadn’t been evolved, knew a fire-type move that was utterly devastating against bug-type Pokémon. Pikachu knew a special move that allowed it to attack while floating from several balloons. Players of Pokémon Snap will certainly appreciate that one. Winning the Pokémon battle will earn you the usual extra money, but it can also earn you some free in-game items like extra Pokéballs.
Capturing is probably the one staple mechanic of Pokémon that is most changed by this game. First off, you will not encounter random Pokémon simply “hiding” in tall grass, every Pokemon you encounter in open environments can be seen on screen and even avoided. This makes random encounters a billion times more manageable, because you’ll know what you’ll be encountering before the capture menu comes up. When the menu fires up, you’ll see the Pokémon you’re attempting to capture with a circle around it. Players of Pokémon Go may find themselves at home with this interface. Simply select you’re ready, and when the timing with the circle is best, move your controller forward as if you are actually throwing a real Pokéball at the screen. We only attempted this with the Pokéball Plus and can’t comment on how this action feels with other controllers. The motion takes some getting used to, but eventually it will become a second nature to the player. You can’t weaken wild Pokémon but if you want, you can feed the wild Pokémon a berry, or use Ultra Balls for an easier capture. A nice touch Game Freak added is that during the capture process, the Plus controller will flash the exact same colors as the active Pokéball on the screen. Even though the player’s Pokémon have very little to do with the capture process in the game, successfully catching a Pokémon will earn experience for all the active Pokémon currently in the player’s bag.
Shaking the Pokéball Plus activated a special mode. Once activated, the Pokémon inside it comes up, and you can perform a mini game to increase its happiness. I remember playing a mode similar to this one when I played Pokémon X on the 3DS XL. You can use the motion control instead of a touch pad to pet your companion or feed it a berry. This increases its happiness and makes it more effective in-game.
We have high hopes that the Nintendo Switch is the best platform Nintendo has ever made for Pokémon games. Since I was a first-time Pokémon player I longed to play a Pokémon game I could play on the go, allowing for local wireless trading and battling, and then bring it home to continue its story on my big screen television. That dream got brighter today.
Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee are coming November 16th, 2018 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. What team are you on?
Gaming History You Should Know – The Flash Animations of Ubergeek.tv November 4, 2018

Welcome back to Gaming History You Should Know, where we highlight some of the best independently produced content from all over the web. Back in the annals of Internet history was a now-defunct website called Ubergeek.tv. It featured some unique flash content, ranging from videos to simple games. If there was an all-encompassing theme to his content, it was that it was revolving around Linux and Open Source software. It was some of the most humorous and eye-catching internet content of all time.
If the site is so good why haven’t I included a direct hyperlink to it, you ask? It would be pointless. Sadly, the site is no longer functional, and if you were to visit its url you would find nothing. What did this mean to the site’s content? Thankfully many of the best videos produced for it have been reposted on YouTube and we are going to take a look at some of them here. Let’s take a look at memory lane shall we?
Do many of you still remember the successful Switch to Mac ads of the 2000s? Honestly, I didn’t like them. While the actors who starred in them were decent with great chemistry, Apple would gloss over the information they provided about their computers in a way I felt was borderline unethical. This parody video on the other hand is just great. Here’s Ubergeek’s take on it, which I feel could only have been inspired if not from himself than from the words of a proud Mac owner.
Next up are some of his Linux related videos. Here’s a different parody of the Switch to Mac commercial only this time it’s about switching to Linux. If you were a supervillian wouldn’t you use Linux?
You like Linux? You like toast? Who wouldn’t like Intellitoast? I was seriously considering building a computer like this after seeing this video.
Next up is a short run of an animated flash game he produced called Penguin Blood Ninja Fiasco. In it you play a ninja penguin tasked to save open source software from evil lawyers. It was heavily inspired by the legal challenges to the GPL in the early 00s. The game itself is no longer playable but there is a full walkthrough video of the game online with its intro and outro included.
That’s just a look at some of the site’s content that has made its way back online, but not everything has been reposted. So far, his henchman soundboard and his final animation, Geeks in Love (which I have seen in its entirety and believe to be a masterpiece) has not been reposted but we will post a follow up with this article when it does. Special thanks to the original creator of the site who let me feature these videos on here. He told me he just enjoys making content and he’s happy for all the love he’s gotten for them!
