Rest In Peace, Carrie Fisher December 27, 2016

It is my unfortunate duty to inform all of you that actress Carrie Fisher has died at the age of sixty.

Like many of you, I’ll always remember her as Princess Leia, an iconic character that has grown beyond anything any actor/actress could imagine. I also loved her as the mystery woman in The Blues Brothers.  She has be featured in many different film and television projects, and she would occasionally poke fun at her fame in those roles.

Rest In Peace.

What to Do if You Can’t Sign in to My Nintendo on iPhone December 23, 2016

Nintendo offers the My Nintendo website as a free rewards site for Nintendo players on the Wii U, 3DS and SmartPhones.  If you’re playing an app like Super Mario Run or Miitomo on the iPhone, linking your My Nintendo account to the apps can award you exclusive new digital content.

However, there seems to be some kind of glitch in the website for anyone who used it on the iPhone before installing the newer version of iOS 10. The site can start randomly redirecting the user once they arrive on it, eventually ending in an Access Denied message.  The user can’t back out of it and they can’t log back in. This can be especially annoying if you’re trying to access your My Nintendo account to link it to Super Mario Run, as the app simply uses its mobile website for login rather than providing its own integrated login functionality.
If you’re having this issue, there is a solution.  You must access your iPhone’s Settings app, select the Safari tab, and select the option to Clear all History and Website Data.  Once you do this, the My Nintendo website should begin to function normally again  This has the side effect of deleting all of your online passwords, forcing you to have to log back in to all of your online accounts.

Nintendo and Apple should take a closer look into this bug and see why it’s happening.  Until that happens, hopefully this tip helped you.

Six years ago, our editor and lead writer announced on this website that he intended to conquer the classic arcade game Dragon’s Lair at  the legendary Funspot Arcade in New Hampshire.  He pledged to beat the entire game on one single credit, worth only five lives, having never played the arcade version of it before.  Today, we’re delighted to announce an update on that declaration…six years after we made it!  The GameXcess.net crew will finally be headed up to New Hampshire this week, and we fully intend to make our attempt to Conquer The Dragon’s Lair!

Maniac has spent much of the day practicing on the game’s Blu-Ray Disc version. He learned how to play the game using the original iPhone version, but he has gotten a bit rusty over the years and may require a few attempts.  Win or lose, expect tons of pictures and video of the attempt!

Dragon’s Lair is out now for Arcades, SmartPhones, Tablets, DVD, Blu-Ray Disc, Wii, PS3…and probably tons more platforms than we can count.  Wish us luck!

I know I don’t usually post movie and television related content on this website but today I’ve decided to make an exception.

In my opinion, there are three iconic films who have irrevocably influenced modern video games, Aliens, Tron and Blade Runner.  Two of those films received sequels, and it has been a shame that the third has not. Today, Warner Bros has revealed that is going to change, and they have released this all-new teaser trailer for the next Blade Runner film, Blade Runner 2049.  Welcome back, Decker.

Blade Runner 2049 is coming to theaters in October 2017.

iOS 10.2 Released December 14, 2016

A decent sized update for iOS 10 devices was quietly released earlier this week. The new update adds a unified TV app and several bug fixes and optimizations.

The 10.2 update is out now and should be compatible with your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, provided the device is compatible with iOS 10.  Depending on your device, iOS 10.2’s download size could weigh in at around 250MB.

I recommend updating your apps after installing the update to ensure their compatibility with the new OS.
