How to Transfer Data From Your Old iPad or iPhone to a New One Without Using iCloud January 3, 2023

The Holidays are ending and I’m sure many of you are sitting on brand new iPhone or iPad models. For those of you who already possess iPhones or iPads, this can be a concerning time, as your personal data is very important and (barring legacy software incompatibility with new hardware) you can carry your data, settings and applications over from one Apple device to another. The best part is, you don’t need to have iCloud involved in this at all.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Apple Watch owners will need to use iCloud during this process. Before performing this backup make sure to enable a sync of your Health application to iCloud, as due to privacy reasons, Watch data is not included in a standard iPhone backup.

To start, you’ll need the following:

  • A Mac or PC with iTunes installed that has enough free space to accommodate your device’s data.
  • Your new iPad or iPhone and your old iPad or iPhone. Both must be functional.
  • Charging cables that fit your new device, your old device, and can plug into your PC/Mac.

To start, open Finder on your Mac or iTunes on your PC, plug your old device into your computer, instruct the computer and device to trust each other, and perform a complete backup of your device onto your computer. You do not need to encrypt your backup, and if you do encrypt your backup there is no way to reset the backup encryption password if you forget it.

When the backup is finished, hit the eject button on iTunes or Finder next to your device’s name and unplug it. I recommend putting your old device into airplane mode and powering it off after this so it won’t accumulate new information after the backup.

Power on your new device and plug it into the same computer. iTunes on PC or Finder on Mac will notify you of the new device once trust is established between the two. Instead of setting up as a new device, tell the computer to load a backup with your old device’s name onto your new device.

Mac users may notice that Finder may ignore your prompt to load a backup onto your new device the first time your new iPad or iPhone is plugged into your Mac, even if your backup is good. If this does happen, the only way to fix it is to perform a RESTORE on your new device by pushing the RESTORE button in Finder. This will update your device to the latest system software version, and after it reboots you will have the chance to try again.

Once the restore completes, make sure to check your device to conclude any setup processes not usually backed up, such as Wi-Fi setup, iTunes password verification, as well as Face ID or TouchID setup.

Once you’ve made it to your new device’s Home Screen, your applications should start redownloading on their own automatically. Once they conclude, you can begin signing back into all of your applications. You may also need to reconnect third-party Bluetooth devices, but AirPods users will be happy to know that their pods will transfer in this process.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Apple Watch owners MUST transfer the use of their Watch to their new iPhone. After a new iPhone has all its data restored and the user is signed into their iTunes account, open the Watch app on your new iPhone and tell the app you wish to transfer an existing Watch to your phone. This process typically takes around five minutes. DO NOT WIPE OR TRADE IN YOUR OLD PHONE UNTIL THIS PROCESS FINISHES!

We’re coming to the end of the year, and I know a lot of science-fiction fans have been hoping that some of the things shown in popular films like Back to the Future Part II would be ready to purchase at any random corner store. We didn’t get flying cars but there were a lot of things we DID get, or got close enough to count.

What did we get? What movies were the most accurate? Watch Maniac as he sits down for this end of the year discussion about the future…or is it the present?

Rare/Weird Things I Own – Plasm #0 December 6, 2022

Welcome back to the next video where we highlight some of the weirdest and/or rarest items from my vast collection. I know this may not be video game related, but if events had happened differently it could have been. Comic historians from long ago remember the name Jim Shooter. After leaving Marvel, he started his own studio, Defiant Comics, and attempted to create their own comic universe. However, to get their new properties out there they would be doing some very novel ideas the established publishers never considered.

Defiant’s flagship series would be Warriors of Plasm, and in the case of their Zero issue (Ed Note – it was the 90s, number Zero issues were a huge deal) it was released as a trading card pack. If you collected all the cards and laid them out in a 3X3 binder, it would produce a full comic that laid the foundation for the Plasm universe. Unfortunately, Defiant would not last and most people don’t remember Plasm at all. However, we do, and we have a (nearly) complete Plasm #0 with its official binder. It has been sitting in my closet for twenty years. Now, you can see it for yourself.

Jim Shooter is welcome to reach out to us 24/7 to explain himself.

Recently, we reported on iiRcade selling out their preorder allotment of Gold model home arcade machines. Now it seems the iiRcade Gold is back in stock, and it is on sale for Black Friday. So here’s a post-script to that news with a new video.

We typically reserve gaming news for written articles here on this site, but recently we’ve experimenting with reporting on news as videos. Given how quickly news seems to change, we may be stopping this practice moving forward. Post a comment below with your thoughts.

Migrating To A New Nintendo Switch Can Affect Clock Based Events in Pokémon Sword and Shield – Here’s How to Fix It November 19, 2022

Pokémon Trainers who plan to upgrade to a brand-new Nintendo Switch can only transfer their Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield save game using ONE method, the Switch’s built in System Transfer option. However, even after that is done successfully, Sword and Shield can sometimes flag a legit transfer as a system clock manipulation and lock out users from accessing time-based events. Here’s how it happened to me, why it’s doing that and what to do about it.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

This one is a user request we are more than happy to fulfill! Ms Pac-Man has always been my favorite arcade game in the Pac-Man franchise and to be honest, my favorite memories playing it were in its cocktail table form factor that Arcade1Up classified as a Head-2-Head version. I was lucky enough to score a deal on one of these at a warehouse sale Arcade1Up hosted for the Red Cross, but what do I think of it? Watch and find out!

Oh and the best part is this video review is going to be in glorious 4K HDR!

Mind of Maniac – iiRcade Gold Sells Out, Will More Be Coming? October 29, 2022

I think we’re breaking news on this one. For arcade-enthusiast gamers who don’t have large homes (or ones who do which have already filled up their space with existing home arcade cabinets) a multicade system, which can host multiple games on one cabinet, is a great deal. I’ve been keeping my eyes on the iiRcade platform for about half a year, as it offers multiple preloaded games in memory, and offer the feature to buy more games online.

Unfortunately, even though iiRcade’s website lists the new Gold Edition of their multicade arcade console as still in preorder, they have been shipping for some time. I’m fact, iiRcade recently announced light gun support is coming to the system. Since that announcement was made, iiRcade Gold Editions have listed on their website as sold out. iiRcade has made no official mention of this, and no arcade enthusiast channel I’ve seen online has mentioned this as well.

I’ve really been interested in iiRcade for some time and hope to be able to get the Dragon’s Lair Gold Edition in the future. So here’s my thoughts about the iiRcade, and my questions about the future of the platform.

Neo-Geo MVSX Unboxing October 4, 2022

We’ve been hard at work replicating a classic 90s arcade experience here at GameXcess.net, and you can’t replicate a 90s arcade without the most iconic arcade cabinet of the time, the Neo-Geo.

Neo-Geo was an arcade and home console platform developed by SNK. By modern standards the Neo-Geo was an arcade console. At arcades, multi-game cabinets were common which offered players the chance to cycle through anywhere from two to six games at any time. Arcade owners who offered Neo-Geo machines could find themselves with the opportunity to easily swap new games without having to replace the entire cabinet. In total, one-hundred forty-three games were offered throughout the platform’s lifespan.

Now, UNICO is offering a bartop-sized Neo-Geo arcade machine preloaded with fifty classic games including Metal Slug, Fatal Fury and Shock Troopers. How does it look?

We filmed this in 4K HDR but due to some issues we encountered while editing we decided to release the edited video in 1080p. Hope you all enjoyed.
