Please Bring the BEST Steve Jobs Movie, Pirates of Silicon Valley, to HBO MAX April 7, 2021

Following the tragic death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, a rush was made to produce a feature film about his life. This was an absolutely pointless endeavor as the definitive Steve Jobs film had already been produced years earlier. The film was called Pirates of Silicon Valley and started Noah Wyle as Steve Jobs and Anthony Michael Hall as Bill Gates. The film was produced by TNT as a made for TV movie and aired multiple times over the course of one night.
The film detailed the people behind the start of Apple and Microsoft, and how they became so successful. I know that probably sounds like the lightest film summary you’ve ever heard, but trust me that’s all you need to know to decide if you’re going to watch it. It received favorable reviews and tons of acclaim from both critics and the real people the movie was interpreting. That’s more than I can say about those two “major studio films” pushed out following Jobs’s death. The film received an uncut DVD home video release in the early 2000s, but after that everyone seemed to forget about it.
So if TNT broadcast it, why hasn’t anyone heard of it? I have no definite answers to that question. As far as I can tell it has never appeared on any major streaming service. That means if you aren’t lucky enough to be able to track down a copy of it on DVD won’t even be able to watch it.
So why did this great film drop so completely off the radar? Well, people interested in seeing it again may have one hopeful possibility. As I mentioned before, the film was produced by TNT and the home video was distributed by Warner Bros. As far as I can tell, both are companies that are currently owned by AT&T. That major communications company also owns HBO MAX, and it seems any film, television show, or short that is owned by either company that isn’t already licensed out to another distributer is going to HBO MAX. Since Pirates of Silicon Valley was never licensed out to any other service, there’s no reason it couldn’t come to HBO MAX.
So, HBO MAX executives, if you’re reading this. You have a movie sitting in your TNT vault collecting dust that would cost you nothing to upload and will make a LOT of people happy to watch again. If you want to see my plea, here it is.
Oh, if you’re still reading this, why not indulge me for one last second? The film’s timeline ended in the year 2000, where it seemed Apple was doomed to be wrecked by Microsoft, but a lot happened in the past twenty years that proved that would not happen. Apple would go on to release the iPod, Mac OSX computers, and eventually the iPhone and iPad. Microsoft would go on to release the Xbox gaming console and multiple successors. HBO MAX could make a sequel and detail Apple’s comeback alongside the rise of the Xbox platform. I know for sure Noah Wyle mentioned in an interview he would be fine with doing a sequel, and the rest of the film’s cast appears to still be acting to this day.
Just a thought. It could be a great new positive for a service looking for their next big thing following the release of the Synder Cut.

We held off reporting on this for a day or two just to see if we could get more information before reporting it. Nintendo has released a software update for the Nintendo Switch, version 12.0.0. While the new update adds no new features, it fixes an issue with cloud save backup failures people on inconsistent internet connections were reporting.
You can download the update right now through your console’s settings menu. It doesn’t seem to be required just yet but that could change at any moment.

E3 2021 Going Virtual April 6, 2021

We’ve held off on reporting this news for a while now because we weren’t willing to talk about it until we got an official confirmation. Well, today we got our confirmation. Due to the current world events, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the world’s biggest trade show and the Super Bowl of video games, will take place by streaming. That means, like 2020’s E3, there will not be a live in-person event this year.
However, unlike last year, where the major publishers spread out their events so far away from each other, people only tuned into the events they had a previous interest in, this year’s digital E3 will be happening over the source of a multi-day event beginning on June 12th, 2021. The major publishers who typically preview their upcoming games at E3 are expected to return and show their upcoming catalog of games for platforms like the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
I think this is great news. Streaming has been a preferred method of viewing new game announcements for a few years now, and by getting all the publishers to make their streaming events together, it should be easier to keep track of all the announcements.
You can stay tuned here for all the latest news about the event!

Happy First Contact Day April 5, 2021

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. On April 5th, 2063 a man named Zefram Cochrane will perform his inaugural test flight of a spaceship he called The Phoenix, the first human spacecraft capable of traveling faster than light. Dr. Cochrane had figured out a revolutionary new method of propulsion called Warp Drive, and was able to construct a spacecraft equipped with it after re-appropriating a nuclear missile left abandoned ten years after the Third World War.
During his space flight, an alien race known as the Vulcans happened to be passing through our Solar System during a routine survey mission. They had no interest in Earth, as we were deemed too primitive at the time. However, when Dr Cochrane’s warp flight was detected by the Vulcan survey ship’s sensors, the Vulcans decide to alter their plans, and land on earth. The human population unites in a way never imagined when they realized were not alone in the universe. Poverty, disease and war were eliminated within fifty years.
At least, that’s according to what I heard on Star Trek.
Today is April 5th, and to celebrate the date, the official Star Trek website will be hosting a virtual live stream with multiple panels starting at 3PM Eastern. They’re going to talk about Star Trek’s legacy and some new projects including the upcoming animated series Star Trek Prodigy. Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Brent Spiner and Alice Krige are expected to appear. I’m really interested in checking this event out so I’ll be tuning in.
Gaming History You Should Know – What Happened to America’s Electronics Stores April 4, 2021

It’s Sunday, that means it is time for a new look at Gaming History You Should Know. In this series, we look at some of the best independently produced video content from across the web. Today, we will take you back to the recent past. Before the world had easy access to the internet, the most exciting way to learn about the latest technology was to go shopping…in a store. As late as thirty years ago, retail stores that sold electronic and computer equipment were plentiful and easy to come by. When you needed anything ranging from new software to a spare part, you could just go and pick it up. Fast forward to the year 2021, and almost all electronic retail stores are gone, forcing people to make almost all their purchases online.
What happened to all of these stores? Radio Shack, CompUSA, Circuit City, and now Fry’s are no longer with us. Was it poor management, economic factors, or something else? The 8-Bit Guy, one of my favorite channels on YouTube, took a look at all of these now-defunct stores and gives his own thoughts as to what happened to them.
Happy Easter!

ConnectiCon 2021 Date Moved April 1, 2021

ConnectiCon is the biggest fan convention in the northeast and we’ve been proud to cover it regularly over the past decade. Last year’s ConnectiCon was cancelled due to the current world events, but as this year’s outlook has gotten a lot brighter, but sadly we are not there yet.
With that in mind, ConnectiCon 2021 has moved their dates to September 9-12th, 2021. All tickets and passes purchased in 2020 and 2021 will be accepted on the new date. Guests who were scheduled to attend the event like Billy West and Rob Paulson have reconfirmed their attendance.
Hotel rooms in the area that were purchased using ConnectiCon friendly group rates should be reaching out to guests who booked their stays to notify about the adjusted dates. If they haven’t reached out to you, you can always connect with them and reschedule your stay.
