Wrestlemania is Happening, Where is The ESPN App Disney Promised for Vision Pro? April 19, 2026

As I write this editorial, Wrestlemania 42 is currently broadcasting on Disney’s latest streaming subscription service, ESPN Unlimited, which (without subsidies from either another Disney streaming plan or from your cable provider) currently costs $30US a month. From all accounts, existing ESPN or ESPN+ subscribers have not seen fit to adopt Unlimited at this time, but that may change following a successful Wrestlemania and integration of ESPN Unlimited with the terrestrial cable and satellite companies companies. Don’t get me wrong, I will always enjoy a good wrestling match, and I’m sure tons of people who are unable to attend the event in person are happy to watch on their home televisions or smart devices, but to be honest none of those options are good enough for me. Why? Because I have an Apple Vision Pro, and I have seen a better way to watch sports.
When Apple first announced the Vision Pro, they promised it will offer a huge amount of features. To this date, Apple has, for the most part delivered on their promises. However, Apple was not the only company that made promises the day the Vision Pro was announced, Disney was there during the initial broadcast, and they made some big promises for the platform. If you never saw Disney’s Vision Pro presentation, or haven’t seen it a while, give it a watch on the video below:
Wow, that is impressive isn’t it? Sadly, it may have been too good to be true. To this date, only two of the applications Disney promised during this demonstration have been released for the Vision Pro. The first was the Disney+ streaming application, which released day and date with Vision Pro, and is a fantastic way to watch content on the service. Disney later released What If… which was a fully interactive exclusive episode of the Disney+ show many people consider a must-download game for Vision Pro. But then Disney went completely dark on the Vision Pro. What If… launched shortly before the release of VisionOS 2.0, and was a major system hit, and to this date we have seen no sign of their National Geographic application, Mickey interactive posters, Disney park builder, or ESPN.
I find this discrepancy concerning. Disney chose to put their ESPN application for the Vision Pro front and center during their demonstration presentation, and it looked the furthest along than any of the other apps, including applications that would eventually get released. Real time sports statistics, the ability to watch multiple games at the same time, and to have 3D representations of player field/court positions during live events is the kind of thing ANY sports fan would enjoy. On top of that, since the Vision Pro supports 3D video streaming, it would open the door to watching events in 3D. Many people don’t know this, but ESPN experimented with providing 3D event broadcasts in the mid 2010s during the 3DTV launch. The problem was 3DTV did not gain a major consumer foothold, and ESPN’s dedicated 3D channel eventually shuttered. The Vision Pro can offer viewers not just 3D video playback, but also High Framerate, HDR, and even IMMERSIVE aspect ratios.
So, where’s the native ESPN app you promised Disney? I’m sure your ESPN+, ESPN Unlimited, and cable company subscribers would love the chance to finally use it! It might even make Vision Pro users a desire to subscribe to your newest service.
