Gaming History You Should Know – History of Mortal Kombat Commercials November 6, 2022

Happy Sunday, welcome back to Gaming History You Should Know, where we highlight some of the best documentaries across the web that discusses game history. In 1991, Mortal Kombat released onto arcades across the country and completely swept gamers away with its combination of photo-realistic sprites and violent fatalities. Many sequels and spin offs would follow and thirty years later the franchise is still going strong.
Starting in the mid-90s, Midway produced home console ports of the original arcade games. These ports would honestly sell themselves based on the goodwill of the original arcade experiences, but Midway would still put an incredible amount of money into producing some unique television commercials for them. How wild were they? YouTube Channel ScorePN produced this great video looking back on them. Check it out!
Mortal Kombat games are out now on multiple platforms.

Arcade1Up Ms Pac Man 40th Anniversary Head-2-Head Home Arcade Review November 1, 2022

This one is a user request we are more than happy to fulfill! Ms Pac-Man has always been my favorite arcade game in the Pac-Man franchise and to be honest, my favorite memories playing it were in its cocktail table form factor that Arcade1Up classified as a Head-2-Head version. I was lucky enough to score a deal on one of these at a warehouse sale Arcade1Up hosted for the Red Cross, but what do I think of it? Watch and find out!
Oh and the best part is this video review is going to be in glorious 4K HDR!
Conversations With Curtis – Interview with The Spoony One October 31, 2022

Ten years ago, I witnessed without a doubt one of the greatest let’s plays of all time when Noah Antwiler, who calls himself The Spoony One, played the cult classic PC horror games Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh. He ended up thrusting the little-known game into the spotlight.
Within the past year, the actor who played the game’s lead, Paul Stetler, has started the series Conversations With Curtis, where he’s interviewed several of the developers and actors behind the game. Today, those two men have gotten together for an incredible interview. Let’s watch!
Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh is out now for the PC.
Mind of Maniac – iiRcade Gold Sells Out, Will More Be Coming? October 29, 2022

I think we’re breaking news on this one. For arcade-enthusiast gamers who don’t have large homes (or ones who do which have already filled up their space with existing home arcade cabinets) a multicade system, which can host multiple games on one cabinet, is a great deal. I’ve been keeping my eyes on the iiRcade platform for about half a year, as it offers multiple preloaded games in memory, and offer the feature to buy more games online.
Unfortunately, even though iiRcade’s website lists the new Gold Edition of their multicade arcade console as still in preorder, they have been shipping for some time. I’m fact, iiRcade recently announced light gun support is coming to the system. Since that announcement was made, iiRcade Gold Editions have listed on their website as sold out. iiRcade has made no official mention of this, and no arcade enthusiast channel I’ve seen online has mentioned this as well.
I’ve really been interested in iiRcade for some time and hope to be able to get the Dragon’s Lair Gold Edition in the future. So here’s my thoughts about the iiRcade, and my questions about the future of the platform.
macOS Ventura Released October 24, 2022

It’s Apple Update Night! Apple has released important updates for pretty much every single piece of hardware they have on the market this afternoon. That means iOS and iPadOS 16.1, WatchOS 9.1, tvOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura are out for download right now.
Ventura and the new iPad update adds a lot of new features originally released on the iPhone. The biggest new feature I’m looking forward to trying is the ability to use the iPhone cameras as a Mac FaceTime camera.
Gaming History You Should Know – The Year of Luigi October 23, 2022

Welcome back to a new Gaming History You Should Know, where we highlight some of the best independently produced game history content from across the web. 2013 was a turning point year for Nintendo. It marked the beginning of the first full year the 3DS and Wii U were on the market together. Pokemania was about to begin its second renaissance with the announcement of the Generation VI games, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, and a certain character that was always in his brother’s shadow was about to step out in a big way.
2013 was officially Nintendo’s Year of Luigi. It started with the launch of the incredible Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon for the 3DS, and continued with more games like Dr. Luigi U and New Super Luigi U. I would be there for all of it, and I remember it playing a huge role in cementing my love for Nintendo games. However, the YouTube Channel Jonii did a fantastic chronicle of the whole year and brought up some things that even I missed out on. If you’re a fan of Nintendo history you should give this a watch.
