Cyberpunk TCG Beta Event Review September 22, 2026

Since its record-breaking Kickstarter concluded, the team over at Weirdco have been preparing the official Cyberpunk 2077 Trading Card Game for its wide release. I can personally verify that full packs of BETA cards are safely in the hands of the Kickstarter backers, and I’m happy to reveal that your friendly local tabletop shop (FLGS) may be ready to sell booster packs and starter decks to the curious masses!

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending an early access Beta event for the game at AKIBA Underground in Clinton, CT. Everyone who participated in the paid event got an exclusive Beta box with a set of six dice, three randomly marked Legends, six 12-card beta Booster Packs, and an exclusive Mantis Blades Beta Promo Card!

Attendance was limited, as the Beta Event Packs were in heavy demand, but I checked with the store in advance and received approval to attend. I had to create an account with the website melee.gg and provide them my user handle before they would allow me to play, but it was not a difficult process from my smartphone. In fact, the Cyberpunk TCG website allows you to link your player account to your melee.gg account to make that process more convenient.

If you’d like to get a better idea of what the store looked like and how the event went, we recorded some footage (with permission from the organizers) and highlighted some of our pulls!

Once the boxes were passed out, players were given time to open them, inspect their pulls, and build their decks. Since this was a beta, we were only allowed to use the cards that we pulled from our boxes, but we were not restricted to build our decks around the specific colors of our random attached legend cards. We were also allowed to use the Mantis Blades promo card if we chose to do so.

We each were assigned an opponent through the website, and each round was a best-of-three. We ended up having two total rounds, as they did not do eliminations, and the event wrapped upon the closing time of the store. I ended up losing both of my matches, but I take full responsibility for that. I still did not have a decent grasp of the rules prior to arriving at the store, and I refused to use any rare cards I pulled to build my deck.

In my opinion, the Beta Event was a rousing success! It brought awareness to the game for existing TCG players who were unfamiliar with Cyberpunk, and gave plenty of Kickstarter backers the chance to have their first Friday Night Firefight! After the event wrapped, I did have some recommendations I’m happy to share with everyone:

• If you have access to a streaming TV at your venue, show the official How to Play video just before the event starts. For many, this was the first time they would EVER be playing the game, and I admit even with a cheat sheet I was confused about the rules during my first game.
• Continuing with that the streaming video theme it would be great to have some ambience running the background during matches. This could be in the form of retro new wave or even ambient atmosphere.

The Cyberpunk TCG is expected to begin a full launch in October. It is expected that regular tournaments will begin shortly after. Make sure to check with your local FLGS if they are participating.
