Star Wars: Republic Commando Coming Back to Switch and PS4 February 24, 2021

One of the last great Star Wars PC games was called Republic Commando. It was a squad based first person shooter which took place just before the events of Star Wars Episode III, and told the story of a small tactical unit of clone troopers during the height of the Clone Wars. I actually got to personally preview the game at E3 2004 and was impressed by it. The game officially launched Holiday 2004 on the PC and original Xbox. While users, including myself, enjoyed it tremendously it never received a sequel or any expansion packs.
Since EA’s grip on Star Wars games have loosened, there has been a heavy demand to see more of the classic Lucasarts games return to become playable on modern gaming consoles. Have I got good news for you today, take a look at this:
Star Wars: Republic Commando is coming April 6th to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
What to Do When Your Joy-Con Has Drift February 24, 2021

We love the Nintendo Switch here on this site. But if you have a Nintendo Switch, it is possible the analog sticks in your controller may start to experience symptoms of drift. What is drift? Drift is what happens when your controller starts to do things you aren’t telling it to, either by ignoring your inputs or creating inputs of their own.
So, if your Joy-Con is drifting, what do you do? You can get Nintendo to repair your drifting controller here. Here’s what the experience was like for us:

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 Switches Developers February 23, 2021

I’m afraid the hardships that have been brought to the upcoming game Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 are continuing. The game’s publisher has confirmed today that it has switched developers. Hardsuit Labs will no longer be developing the game, and development of the game will continue with an entirely different studio. This has the side effect of delaying the game’s release until at least 2022. Preorders for the game will also be stopped at this time.
Never in the twenty years of me covering the gaming industry have I ever seen an announcement of this kind. While I have heard cases of game development switching hands, it has always been for unannounced games, or games that were still very early in production. This game was originally planned for its release last year, and over the past few months its lost its major leading staff. It had a preorder campaign set up with major retailers. Who knows what that means for the game’s eventual release, or if any of the footage of the game we saw up to this point will even end up in the final version of the game?
If we hear more news, we will be reporting on it. Until then, you might have to manually cancel your preorder, or move it to a different game.
Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 is coming in 2022.
If You Upgrade Your Pokemon Pass Device, You Will Lose Your Completed Activities Forever February 22, 2021

I’ve talked a bit about Pokémon Pass here in the past, but for those of you who may not be familiar with it I’ll talk about it briefly here. Pokémon Pass is a smart device app which awards digital goods for completing tasks assigned by The Pokémon Company. Pokémon games have a long standing tradition of offering free digital in-game goods during limited-time promotions (in fact I think they’re the first company I can think of to do that). However, over the first half of the past decade, this has been a hassle. Typically, major retailers hold these promotions, and while my local GameStop has always been reliable for sharing digital codes and goodies during promotion periods, larger retailers like Target and Walmart have been utter failures at it.
When Pokémon Pass launched, it let users skip the middleman so to speak and would automatically generate Mystery Box codes just for being in the GPS range of the participating retailer. That meant you could go to a store during the event period, shop a little, and get your goodies without bothering a single employee.
Unfortunately, I’ve learned about a flaw with the app that I wanted to tell people about here. And that is that despite the fact that you must have a digital account and online access to use Pokémon Pass, completed missions don’t actually save to your profile, they save to your device. That means if you ever upgrade your device (like I did recently) you will lose access to all the content you unlocked during the app’s lifespan. If you had participated in limited time events that are no longer available (such as the Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie event) you will not be able to reobtain them. I have even confirmed this with The Pokémon Company, as this is how they designed Pokémon Pass to work.
I know what you’re thinking, would keeping a backup of your app’s old data and loading it into your new device fix the problem? No, sadly. Because the information is device locked, it’s impossible to complete new challenges running your old device’s data on your new device.
Perhaps it’s time we move all events to Pokémon Home?
Pokémon Pass is out now for iOS and Android smart devices.

Tonight, during the first Nintendo Direct in what felt like forever, the next game in the Splatoon franchise was just revealed. I give you Splatoon 3.
