Movie of the Week: How to Make a Monster October 29, 2010
Posted by Maniac in Site Videos.5 comments
It’s Halloween and what better time to review a 2001 made for premium tv horror film? But why, if this is a gaming website, would I go to the trouble of reviewing a horror movie for Halloween? That’s because I’m reviewing 2001’s How to Make a Monster, the first movie I ever saw that actually depicted game development as a legitimate profession (yet still being a completely awesome job).
Seriously this movie has a special place in my heart. The acting is totally awesome, the writing and characters are completely cheesy yet lovable. Of course, then a monster comes to life and starts ripping into all of that. This is a movie that really should’ve been a comedy. That said I really enjoyed it, and here’s (in the biggest video gameXcess.net has ever done) a full review of the movie complete with a whole theme song.
If you guys like the theme song defiantly post up a comment!
Star Wars: The Force Unleased II Collector’s Edition Unboxing October 26, 2010

I picked up Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II today, and got the nice pre-order outfit and lightsaber crystal along with it. I made sure to shoot my unboxing on my 1080p camera, enjoy.
I have to say I was really disappointed by what was offered here, especially after the really high quality of the Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition and even Halo Reach’s Legendary Edition (when comparing the Limited Edition portion). This felt like what would’ve been more worthy of a $70 price tag opposed to a $80 one.
This is the Xbox 360 Version, the CE is also available for the PS3.
Movie Review of the Week: Game Boys October 23, 2010
Posted by Maniac in Reviews, Site Videos.2 comments
It’s a first for gameXcess.net, a movie review! Maniac and Diskreader117 discuss The Cinema Snob Brad Jones’s independant comedy “Game Boys” and what we liked about it, and what he got right about gamer culture and gamers in general.
Word to warning on older or lower-powered computers. This review is shot in 1080p, which we might continue doing. The problem with shooting in 1080p is not picture quality but the time it takes to upload is much longer than a 720p movie. Please make sure to adjust resolution accordingly.
If you haven’t seen the movie yet, it’s free to watch here. All two hours of it.
Stay tuned to the site for the next game-related movie review, the 2001 HBO Creature Feature, “How to Make a Monster”.
Pre-Order Dead Space 2 and Get Dead Space Ignition Free October 13, 2010

I was a huge fan of Dead Space, and honestly I was an even bigger fan of Dead Space Extraction on the Wii. So of course I’ve been really looking forward to Dead Space 2. But it looks like EA is giving away a pretty nice goodie to those who preorder Dead Space 2. The prequel to Dead Space 2, Dead Space Ignition, (a download only title for the PSN and XBLA) will be free of charge for anyone who preorders Dead Space 2.
Remember kids, the PS3 version is coming with an HD version of Dead Space Extraction free of charge with the game as well, ported to the Playstation Move (but compatable with Dual Shock 3).
Seriously, if you don’t believe how I feel about Dead Space Extraction, feel free to check out the review I did last year for it.
Dead Space 2 will release Jan 25th, 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Dead Space Ignition releases today for XBLA and PSN.
Top Five Halo Reach Cutscenes October 1, 2010

I know it’s been a while since we’ve done a top five on the site, but there was a really good reason why there wasn’t one, and that was because I was waiting for the cutscenes for this game to be released.
Halo Reach again shows Bungie is one of the best at making in-game cutscenes and this is a celebration of what I believe is their top five. Spoiler warning for those of you that haven’t played the game yet, enjoy!
Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition Unboxing September 28, 2010

Maniac unboxes the Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition, it’s quite nice. I chose this over the High Stakes Edition because the High Stakes Edition (0nly in the Capcom Online Store) didn’t include the behind the scenes bonus disc with the entire Zombrex Dead Rising Sun movie. That plus I wanted the extra shot of Zombrex, just in case.
What We Liked About Halo Reach September 27, 2010

diskreader117 and I continue our conversation about Halo Reach, and discuss what they liked about the game, because they did in fact enjoy it very much, although they thought it could’ve been better. Also we talk about the latest Halo Reach news, including new content that is coming for the game.
We also talk about the latest Halo Reach news including when matchmaking will work for Campaign, what the most difficult armor to get will be, and discuss easter eggs
What Would Have Made Halo Reach Better? September 27, 2010

In a rare first for gameXcess, I actually have someone other than myself in a video. Joined by diskreader117, we talk about Halo Reach, and what could have been improved with it. But don’t watch this video and think we didn’t like the game, we both did very much, and in the next part we talk about what we liked.
Kotaku’s Comments on a Starcraft II Cinematic DVD Forgot Something September 16, 2010
Posted by Maniac in Site Videos.add a comment
Apparently Kotaku has a really short memory when they posted up the off the cuff comment that Bobby Kotick had about an interest in selling the cinematics of Starcraft II on a DVD.
What they forgot to mention is BLIZZARD ALREADY DID THAT! Before Blizzard merged with Activision they actually sold a really collectable DVD boxed set of all the cinematics from Warcraft III, Diablo II and Starcraft (and Brood War)’s cinematics in stores for 20 dollars US. Don’t believe me?
Hell you could probably still buy it on Blizzard’s website, or at least find it on Ebay.
Halo Reach Legendary Edition Unboxing September 14, 2010

This is what I waited in line for, the Halo Reach Legendary Edition. The Limited Edition is likely sold out everywhere, but I think there’s still Legendary Editions for sale, if you have enough cash to afford it.
Trust me, you WANT to afford it. Just look at this thing.
