Inspired by the good deals he got online, Maniac decided to go looking for some deals in his local game stores. Joined by Twitch, who had a lead of his own on a new game store they hadn’t previously heard of, Maniac and Twitch just spent their Saturday night shopping for games and looking for deals. They ended up with a lot more than what they bargained for and wanted to share the story and the game deals with all of you.

Lollipop Chainsaw Killer Moves Trailer June 3, 2012

A brand new trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw has hit the web just before E3.  The release of this game is coming fast, and if it does get an E3 showing it will probably be the closest game to release shown at the expo.

Really not much new is revealed here about the game’s story, but it serves as a pretty good preview of the all the game’s mechanics that are coming, including the ability to change character skins through unlocks and downloadable content.  Also, you just gotta love the name of the High School the game will be taking place at.

With all the fantastic trailers that have been released for this game up to this point, I honestly can’t believe that none of them have been released yet on either the Playstation Network or the Xbox Live Marketplace.  Can someone ring these guys and tell them to put them up for download?  The developers have already announced that there will not be a demo released for the game, if it wasn’t for the game’s showing at PAX East this year I would not have even known it was coming.

Lollipop Chainsaw is coming June 12th, 2012 to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

What Happened to Raiden? June 2, 2012

In 2001, after about twenty minutes of gameplay, players of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty were thrown a curve ball.  The game’s protagonist shifted from the series staple character, Solid Snake, the hero of Shadow Moses and probably one of the most popular main characters of all time, to a new, unknown character who was the polar opposite of Solid Snake, Raiden.

In the United States at least, this was met with a pretty critical backlash.  Raiden was nothing like Solid Snake.  He was inexperienced, younger, and his appearance was completely different.  He had acrobatic capabilities that Snake did not have, but he also had really long hair.  His hair was so long in fact that some people (players and NPCs alike) originally mistook him as a woman.

However, over the course of the game we learn Raiden was not a completely inexperienced solider.  He had a troubled past he had blocked out of his memory.  In fact we learn as a boy he was a child solider who served under George Sears, better known as Solidus Snake.  Solidus was the only perfect clone made of Big Boss and was the leader of the rogue group DEAD CELL, the villains in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.  By the end of the game, after defeating Solidus, Snake told Raiden he needed to find his own path.

In Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the developers shifted the protagonist back to Snake.  Well, mostly, as the game was a prequel taking place thirty years before the events of the first Metal Gear Solid.  The character of Snake in that game was called Naked Snake.  While Naked Snake was identical in appearance and in voice actor to Solid Snake, it turned out he was Solid Snake’s father, Big Boss.  There were references to Raiden in the game, however.  With very little explanation you have the chance to wear a Raiden mask throughout the game if you choose to, in fact if you tell the game at launch you liked MGS2, Snake will wear that mask in the game’s opening cinematic.  You will also get the chance to wear it in a later scene in the game, as one of the top men working for the bad guys had Raiden’s appearance.

Then, in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Raiden returned, and he was a whole new person.  After the events of MGS2, it became clear that Raiden had upgraded himself in order to continue his fight.  Probably inspired by the sword given to him by Snake and Olga in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Raiden was now sporting a powered exoskeleton and a sword.  Very little about what had happened to him in the intervening years between the second and fourth game were told to the player, and we are mostly left to determine that for ourselves.

Metal Gear Solid Rising, when it was originally announced in 2009, was supposed to explain this story to us.  Powered by the FOX Engine by Konami, the game was designed to tell the story between MGS2 and MGS4 and explain the backstory about what happened to Raiden in the years between those two games.  Two years later, the game was re-revealed to the world as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.  It had a new engine, a new developer and a whole new story.  The game was now a sequel to MGS4, and would follow Raiden after the events of that game.

So what happened to him?  Konami released this video series that hopefully may shed some light on that.  Take a look for yourselves.

Is it just me or does that sound exactly like Solidus is talking in that last video?

After shooting the Final Fantasy Deals video I received a lot of comments from people online that if I wanted a copy of Final Fantasy VII, the best option for me monetarily would be to buy it off the Playstation Network and download it to my Playstation 3 or Playstation Portable.  After what happened with the PSN a few months ago I have not been able to trust the network with my credit card since, so I decided instead to buy a prepaid Playstation Network card from my local vendor.

Well, the card was redeemed, it worked.  Final Fantasy VII was downloading.  Not much to do with the card after that.  Lets destroy it!

Zone of the Enders was a series which launched on the Playstation 2 in early 2001.  It was published by Konami, who had another major Playstation 2 series coming later that year which they knew was enormously anticipated.  In order to capitalize on this release, they included a pre-release demo for this highly anticipated game along with Zone of the Enders, prompting a ton of people to buy the game not because they were interested in ZOE, but so they could have the highly anticipated game’s demo.

What game’s demo was included with Zone of the Enders?  Konami included the demo for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, the highly anticipated sequel to what many considered to be the greatest game for the original Playstation.  Well, I’m here to tell you that Konami is planning to repeat history. as they’re including early access to the playable demo of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance with copies of Zone of the Enders HD Collection.  Take a look at the preview!

Not enough for you?  Check out this fantastic new intro animation made specifically for the new HD version of the game.

Zone of the Enders HD Collection will be released this December for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  It will include the demo for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance.

Oh and by the way, a new Zone of the Enders sequel is coming too.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance E3 2012 Preview, Demo Announced June 1, 2012

A bunch of trailers have hit the web in advance of E3 2012’s kickoff next week!  First up is the highly anticipated Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, a game with a very long track record and a lot to prove.  Originally premiered by Hideo Kojima himself at Microsoft’s E3 2009 press conference, the game went dark after 2010’s E3 showing.  However, it came back with a punch at Spike TV’s VGA 2011 Awards Show, showing a brand new graphics engine, a brand new developer, and a brand new title.

A follow-up to the PS3-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the new game shifts the game’s protagonist back to the unexpected protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, RAIDEN.  Armed with all the skills and abilities we saw him have in MGS4, we’re going to be using those skills and abilities in a whole new action game.

The game will be playable at this year’s E3.  So what has Jack (Raiden) been doing for the past four years this game has been in development?  Perhaps this video by Mega64 could shine some light on that.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 early 2013.  A demo for Metal Gear Rising will be included with Zone of the Enders HD Collection.  The demo will be released later through Playstation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace.
