Bioware has announced the release date for the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, which will expand the Mass Effect 3 ending.

After the vocal backlash to the ending of Mass Effect 3 shortly after release, Bioware promised that they would address the concerns of the gamer community and provide a deeper, expanded ending which would show further insight to the player than what the game offered at launch.  This content will not change the overall endings of the game but instead provide a longer ending which will show the player more of the consequences of all the decisions they’ve made and the impact its had on the Mass Effect universe.

You can view more of the details about the Extended Cut by watching the interview below.

The Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut will be made available as a free download on Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 for the Xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3 in North America.  International PS3 players will get the content on July 4th, 2012.

How to Connect the Xbox 360 to your HDTV With HDMI June 21, 2012

After I posted up a how to video which helped users properly connect the Xbox 360 to their HDTVs so they could get the best possible visual quality out of it, I started to get a lot of comments asking for help of a different nature.  I mentioned in the earlier video that some users would have the option to use HDMI cable instead of the standard Xbox 360 AV cable and it would be preferable to use that instead.  HDMI’s setup is much simpler and doesn’t require tinkering with the Xbox 360’s resolution settings unless you wanted to.

So here is the proper procedure for connecting your HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 to your HDMI-equipped HDTV, and if you have one, HDMI equipped surround sound receiver.  All that is required for this is some HDCP compliant HDMI 1.3 cable, which isn’t usually included with the Xbox 360’s package.

Announced originally at the Ubisoft E3 Media Briefing, ZombiU is a brand new franchise from Ubisoft designed exclusively to take advantage of the new Wii U controller.  To get a better feeling for what kind of world this game will be like, here’s the game’s official announcement trailer.

But there’s a lot more to the game than just its atmosphere.  How does it play and more importantly what features can it take advantage of from the Wii U and how do those features help the player?

Well you can be sure that you will have a lot riding on that Wii U controller, and that’s because one bite and the game’s over.  To combat that you’ll have to take full advantage of all the resources you’ll be getting in this game thanks to the Wii U controller.

ZombiU is coming exclusive to the Wii U from Ubisoft.

Announced at E3 2012 at the Nintendo E3 Press Conference, Batman Arkham City Armored Edition is more than just a port of Batman: Arkham City for the Nintendo Wii U, it features whole new gameplay mechanics made possible by the Wii U controller.

In it, you’ll be able to play through the story of Batman: Arkham City as armored versions of Batman and Catwoman.  While the game’s overall storyline looks to be the same (and I definitely saw some snippet in the Wii U trailer for the Harley Quinn’s Revenge paid DLC expansion) whole new features, dubbed the “B-A-T System” will be accessible to the player through the Wii U’s touchpad screen controller.

The player will have access to the new computer on Batman’s wrist from the touchscreen on the Wii U Controller, enabling a whole slew of features including quick gadget access, full dossiers of all the heroes and villians in Batman’s world, a whole new scanning and hacking system, and finally fully immersive control over Batman’s remote batarang, using the controller’s gyroscopes.

Want to take a better look for yourself?  Check this out.

Doom 3 BFG Edition Release Date and Price June 20, 2012

Bethesda has just announced the final price and release date for the Doom 3 BFG Edition.  Announced recently, this updated version of Doom 3 will include more than just Doom 3 and its expansion pack Resurrection of Evil, but also Doom 1, Doom 2, and new, never before seen “lost levels”.

As I have previously reported, the BFG Edition will offer a few new features over the original Doom 3 PC game.  It will take full advantage of Widescreen HDTVs, something that Doom 3 did not support natively on the PC.  But a new feature that I don’t think was previously mentioned is the updated game will feature a persistent flashlight coming from the armor.  This new feature is a HUGE deal.  Since it was launched, the major complaint about Doom 3 was its dark environments were TOO dark, and what was probably the first feature that modders added to Doom 3 was a persistent flashlight beam.

The BFG Edition will also have 3D support and a full list of trophies on the Playstation 3 and achievements on the Xbox 360.  Finally, a new checkpoint save system, allowing for smoother, faster saving is being implemented as well.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is coming October 18th, 2012 for a price of $39.99US on Xbox 360 and PS3.  The PC version will cost $29.99US.

Dead Space 3 E3 2012 Gameplay June 19, 2012

EA showed more of Dead Space 3 than just what was at the E3 Media Briefing at E3 2012 this year.  They showed over twenty minutes of footage for the game, and in particular the differences between the game’s story when played either alone in single-player or with a friend in drop-in drop-out cooperative play.

The video switches between different gameplay sections in the second act of the game, showing both the single player and cooperative sides of some sections.  Breaking it up is filmed introductions by the game’s producer, Steve Papoutsis.  While he does set up what we’re about to see during the filmed introductions, he does not speak over the game footage and interrupt the gameplay.  It’s a great watch for anyone interested in how the game will be different from previous games, and also its similarities.

So just who is this new character that finds himself with Issac Clarke on a planet that’s very, very cold?  Well, maybe the opening of this new animated graphic novel will help show you just what kind of character is John Carver, and why he’s so determined to destroy the marker.

Dead Space 3 is coming in 2013 to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

With the release of Lollipop Chainsaw this week, Maniac decides to talk about an earlier game series director Suda51 created, No More Heroes for the Nintendo Wii.

This is without a doubt his favorite third-party franchise on the Wii, and was an amazingly mature breath of fresh air in an otherwise completely Nintendo dominated platform.  Give a listen to Maniac as he gives his unscripted thoughts on this series which since its inception has spawned a direct sequel and HD re-releases.  He also talks about how the game’s development impacted his life personally and where he thinks the series is headed next.

Happy Father’s Day everyone!  Since it’s a holiday, that means that our friend Julian Day will talk to us from his cell in Arkham City!  For those of you who have picked up the Batman: Arkham City Game of the Year Edition, this will probably be the first time you’ll have gotten a chance to talk to him, so I included a reminder for new players where to go in order to find him.

Nine trips down, that means that there are three more to go.  The next time he’ll talk to us will be on July 4th, Independence Day.  Come back then!

Batman: Arkham City is out now for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 and a Game of the Year Edition is currently out for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 which includes all released downloadable content on a seperate bonus disc.  A Wii U version, entitled Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition is also coming!

Game Boys Animated Series Announced June 15, 2012

Posted by Maniac in Game News.

Brad Jones, better known to the internet as The Cinema Snob, has just announced that he intends to release a follow-up to his 2008 independently produced and freely released comedy film Game Boys as a weekly animated series.

The series will be animated by artist (and supervillian) Andrew Dickman. Brad Jones has announced that all the major characters from the original movie will be reprised by their original actors including himself, Alyx Shryock, Jake Norvell, Jerrid Foiles, and Jillian Zurawski. However, Bianca Queen, who played Sally, Brad’s main love interest in the movie, has retired from acting and Jones is unsure if she will return.

I for one am thrilled for this announcement. I was a huge fan of the original movie Game Boys, I thought it was a breath of fresh air in a world where major movies either completely ignore talking about video games or if they did, completely botch their depictions of it. To me, it felt like Game Boys was authentic, as it was done by people who had a passion for the games they played, and I have been hoping that Brad would return to the film and make a sequel. If you want to hear my full thoughts about the movie, you can watch my review of it here. Here’s to hoping that other ancillary characters like Richardson and Virtual Boyd will also return!

You can read the full announcement for the series here. If you have not yet seen the original Game Boys movie yet, you can watch it here free of charge.

UPDATE: I’m being notified by several sources (including Brad Jones himself, *points down*) that Bianca Queen will indeed return as Sally. I think this is wonderful news as she is a fantastic actress. I loved her in Game Boys and Midnight Heat, both directed by Jones, and can’t wait to see her back with the rest of the returning ensemble cast.
