How to Have a Gaming Tour of New York City March 22, 2026

As a gamer who grew up on the East Coast, I was FREQUENTLY reminded of the fact that NO major gaming events or technology companies existed on my side of the country. That’s partially due to the fact that most major gaming companies had set up shop early in states such as Texas and California, and a side effect of their regional focus was most major gaming news came out of the West Coast. In fact, there weren’t any major gaming conventions held on the East Coast until Penny-Arcade offered to host a PAX in Massachusetts around the early to mid 2010s. Before that time, I would have to hop a six-hour plane ride any time I needed to report on major gaming news. However, the East Coast of the country could not be ignored forever.

New York City has been frequently cited as the heartbeat of the entire country, and this is a fact that tech companies have been ignoring to their loss for the past thirty years. Nintendo opened the very first Pokemon Center in the United States back in 2001 in NYC, and since rebranding it as a full-fledged Nintendo Store, the site has been a bedrock of Rockefeller Plaza for over twenty years. Since then, other companies such as Microsoft and Meta, have opened up boutique stores throughout the city. My wife and I recently spent the day in Manhattan as I sought to find the new technology hotspots throughout the island. We ended up having a wonderful day, and I left the city with a great appreciation for what was currently offered….as well as a huge haul of tech-goodies I could not get anywhere else.

First off, I want to highlight the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue.

Located just south of Central Park, this Apple Store operates 24-hours night and day and offers a full range of Mac, iPad, Vision Pro and iPhones for sale. This is typically the first place that the mainstream media will broadcast from whenever Apple releases a new product, and Apple will always dress up the store to highlight whatever the newest product they’re offering currently is. Today, that happens to be the new MacBook Neo.

My intention was to take my wife there for a live demonstration of the new M5-powered Apple Vision Pro, but she wasn’t feeling well from the train ride into the city. Instead, we sat in on a live demonstration, completely free of charge, focused on Apple Intelligence. I use an iPhone 16 Pro, but haven’t made much use of the AI features since they were implemented in an iOS update several months ago. My wife uses an iPhone 14, which does not support AI, but I was hopeful the lecture would provide incentives for her to finally upgrade to a newer phone.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed the presentation on Apple Intelligence, and we both could find our own favorite feature offered by the current AI models we agreed would be useful. She appreciates the image creation tool, and I found a lot of useful functionality in the new camera search/translate/transcribe feature. We didn’t end up buying anything (neither of us needed any accessories at this time), but the lecture alone made the visit worthwhile.

Next we wanted to check out Meta Lab. Also located on Fifth Avenue, they focus on offering public access to current Meta technology, including the Quest 3, the Gen2 Meta Ray-Ban sunglasses, and the new Meta glasses.

I’m actually a big fan of the original Meta Ray-Bans. I’ve had the first generation Wayfarer since Thanksgiving 2023, and they still work just fine. The thing I appreciated the most about their Ray-Ban smart glasses were that they were priced just as high as traditional Ray-Ban sunglasses, and yet offered integrated Bluetooth audio, hands-free camera, and voice controlled access to the new Meta AI. They’re also a really good pair of sunglasses, and the Wayfarer design has never gone out of style. I’ve shot a lot of recent unboxing and review videos with those glasses. In short, they’re both practical and convenient. As you know, I’m also a Quest 3 owner/enthusiast, so I wasn’t in need of a Q3 or Q3S demonstration either. No, I went to Meta Labs because wanted to get a first hand experience with their new screen-enhanced Meta Glasses.

Meta was nice enough to provide me a live demonstration on the second floor of the lab. It was actually a really cool space, with a lounge area surrounded by urban art and artifacts. I had to take off my Apple Watch to affix their neural band to the wrist of my dominant hand. The band would serve as the controller for the demonstration.

As I’m sure many have already reported in the media, the Meta display is only visible in one eye, but this is not a major detriment to using the product. What was a detriment was the neural band’s gesture interpretation, and the current limitations of the hardware. The demonstration was happy to walk me through all the gestures my hand needed to perform in order to control the menus on the glasses. The problem was that coming from someone who uses an Apple Vision Pro, the screen-powered glasses felt like a step backwards. Only a handful of applications were offered by the glasses, ranging from internal camera, streaming music media player, and of course Meta AI prompt. These are features I was already familiar with from the screen-free Meta Ray-Bans I’ve already owned, and I honestly do not feel the internal screen offered that much of an improvement, certainly not enough to justify the several hundred dollar price bump. The control system itself was not as responsive as a Vision Pro, which, combined with the learning curve on the control gestures, made basic navigation feel unintuitive. While this may sound like I had an unpleasant experience, it was actually a great learning experience I’m happy I received. I’m still a fan of the existing smart glasses, and I would still recommend getting the Meta Ray-Ban or Oakley Gen2 screen-free glasses to anyone interested in them.

Our next stop was to a location that wasn’t even on our initial list when we came into the city that day, the Microsoft Store.

Located on Fifth Avenue, this two-floor shop offered live demonstrations of recent MS Surface tablets on the first floor, and a gaming-focused museum on the second, with a one-person at a time Virtual Reality simulator ride.

The Original Xbox Prototype

I absolutely had to check out the second floor to give the World of Warcraft simulator a ride.

The VR simulator can handle one person at a time, and lets you ride on the back of a flying dragon through a real-time World of Warcraft powered simulation. As someone who hasn’t played the game since its initial release twenty-two years earlier, I felt like I was literally inside the World again for a brief few moments.

Once the simulation was done, I decided to take a closer look at some of the store’s exclusive merchandise. The store had a smattering of World of Warcraft, Xbox, Fallout, and Halo 2 clothing for sale, alongside their Xbox and Surface hardware. While i had no intention of buying an Xbox or Surface while I was there, the great experience I had in the simulator alone made me eager to pick up a Halo 2 shirt while I was onsite.

Finally, we headed back to Rockefeller Plaza to visit the last location on our tour for the day Nintendo NYC. Located at 10 Rockefeller Plaza (next to the NBC building), Nintendo NYC (formerly Nintendo World, and even more formerly Pokemon Center NY), was a combination Nintendo merchandise store and museum.

I’ve visited Nintendo NYC off and on every few months since the first time I ever visited in 2013, and I always try to make it a must-do activity whenever I’m in Manhattan. Sadly, most of the museum pieces in the store had been consolidated to just one two-sided display on the store’s second floor, as the former museum portion of the site was now being taken up by demonstration units.

The upside of the extra space was that there is always rare Nintendo merchandise for sale here that you cannot get anywhere else or even online, and I had three specific items in mind for this trip. During the recent 30th anniversary Pokemon Presents presentation, The Pokemon Company announced they would be selling a mini Game Boy player capable of playing songs from the original Pokemon titles. The item, as well as Pokemon Pokopia, and the new Mario Talking Flower, have been sold out online and in most retail stores since they were at launch. However, I was lucky enough to find all three of those products for sale at Nintendo NYC, and I did not hesitate for even one second to purchase them. I cannot think of a better way to cap off any day in NYC without at least one trip to Nintendo NY. It’s always busy, but there’s no denying it offers the best possible access to products you can’t get anywhere else, and long-term Nintendo fans will always find something new on display there in their museum that nobody had seen before.

If you liked this article, and want us to continue with more just like it, feel free to post a comment below with your thoughts. Have you been to any of these spots yourselves? Do you wish you could go? Do you wish more places like it would open? I know I sure do!

Apple has released a minor update for the iPhone and iPad earlier today. The new update, 26.3.1, adds support for the new Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR, which will be releasing this month. Depending on your device it should weigh in under 1GB.

There does not appear to be an update for the Apple TV or Apple Watch at this time. The Vision Pro already had this update earlier in the week, but it fixed a VP specific display issue. We have not tested the Mac at this time.

Apple has released an important update for everything they make earlier today, including iPhones, iPads, and the Mac. The new update, 26.3, includes some major bug fixes and improvements people have been clamoring for since the last minor release.

We expect some improvements will be coming to Apple Intelligence, as Apple plans to migrate to the Google Gemini model. However, that isn’t expected to transition until 26.4 releases later this year.

Depending on your device, and if you have Apple Intelligence on it, your update could weigh between 3.5-12.6GB. You will also need this update for the Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.

Apple Announces New Vision Pro Powered by M5 Chip October 17, 2025

Earlier this week, Apple quietly announced hardware revisions for their MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro devices will be releasing later this week. The big news about this announcement was that all this hardware will now be powered by Apple’s new M5 processor.

This is a powerful enhancement for the Vision Pro, as the M5 is capable of Ray Tracing as well as enhanced AI performance over the current M2 chip. This can mean better in-app performance, longer battery life, and a higher theoretical refresh rate.

Other than the chip, it doesn’t appear that there are any new features of this Vision Pro that will not be offered to existing Vision Pro owners. That new dual knit head strap does look nice….but it will be sold separately for $99US at Apple Stores.

It’s been nearly two years since the release of the Apple Vision Pro, and we felt the time is ready to finally provide our thoughts about it. In short, this is the kind of device that we’ve waited our whole lives to exist, but there are still a lot of things that can be improved about it. To start with, many products and features that were initially announced for it have still not been released to this day.

So, what do we think of this product that we’ve been using since day one? What accessories do we prefer to use with it? What do we think could be improved about it? Watch the video below for our full review.

Apple Promised Immersive Video Content Would Come to Vision Pro, Where is It? March 23, 2024

Apple is more than just a successful computer/tech company, since the launch of iTunes (now Apple Music), they are likely the biggest digital distributor of media content on the planet. Most major albums, feature films and television shows that are not locked to competing streaming services can be purchased on Apple’s digital marketplace and watched on various platforms including iPhone, iPad, PC and Mac. Now, after seeing the success of subscription services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, Apple decided to launch their own dedicated subscription service, Apple TV+. Priced at $9.99US a month, it gives you access to several exclusive films and television shows that cannot be watched on any other service (or even purchased through iTunes!).

This year, Apple has shifted their focus to Augmented Reality (AR). Their biggest new release is the Vision Pro, and as expected, the device will fully integrate with their existing digital marketplace and streaming service, allowing you to watch supported content in 2D and 3D. As someone who got one at launch, I can tell you that it delivers on what Apple promised. Theatrical films watched on the Vision Pro’s Apple TV application can virtually replicate a theater experience, in 2D AND 3D. In fact, Apple’s official in-store Vision Pro demonstration included showing two different pieces of 3D content. The first was the 3D trailer for Super Mario Bros: The Movie. This was meant to show that Apple could accurately replicate a 3D movie theater experience in Vision Pro, The second was an Immersive trailer for all the exclusive shows they would be releasing on Vision Pro, and if you don’t have a Vision Pro you should schedule yourself a demo of the hardware just so you can watch it yourself.

When Apple released the Vision Pro on February 2nd, 2024, they launched three Apple TV+ Immersive shows and one exclusive immersive special alongside the device with each show focused on a different concept. The first is Adventure, which highlights extreme athletes accomplishing incredible feats. Its pilot episode featured a line walker who attempted to cross a rope connecting two sheer cliff sides. It is without a doubt my favorite show of the initial launch. The second is Wild Life, which focuses on showing the wild animals kept and cared for in natural preserves across the world. Its first episode focused on the rhino and was absolutely adorable. The third was an immersive adaptation of Apple’s Prehistoric Planet. While it was entirely CG, it made you felt like you were literally among dinosaurs in their natural environment. It wasn’t my favorite show on the series (I never watched Prehistoric Planet in 2D), I admit it has potential.

The last immersive release was an Apple Music special. Alicia Keys recorded a rehearsal session in full 3D surround performing some of her favorite songs. It’s a great look into an intimate jam session that makes you feel like you’re recording the songs alongside the band. If you’re a fan of Alicia’s music, you must watch it. Here’s the official trailer for it (in 2D).

Since the Vision Pro offers native 4K HDR 3D display, the picture quality on these shows is beyond anything I’ve seen offered in competing devices or competing services. Apple is one of the most successful companies in the world, so they could certainly afford to spare no expense when budgeting these shows. UHD-capable immersive 3D cameras are extremely expensive, and some of the shows highlighted at launch were clearly shot in untamed natural locations at extreme conditions. That said, the pilot episodes prove the final product was worth the expense, as Vision Pro has set a new gold standard for 3D immersive content no rival can match yet.

So if the content is so great (for the most part) what’s the problem? I just listed out three shows and one special. On paper, you’d think that isn’t a bad launch, and you’d be partially right. The content released so far do not appear to fit a traditional time frame, so each “episode” of the new shows do not take up the traditional 30 minute time frame (or 22 without commercials). They vary from seven to fifteen minutes in length each. The longest content is the Alicia Keys special, and that isn’t much longer.

As of the time this is being published, it has been nearly two months since the Vision Pro launched. Since then, Apple has not released a single new episode for any of the immersive shows that I referenced before, nor have they released previews for any new immersive shows or specials. An immersive trailer was created at launch for demonstration purposes, which included a mixture of footage from the shows that have already been released, and footage that looks to have been filmed for as yet unreleased episodes of those same shows. Among the new content included footage of hot air ballooning, a frozen coastline taken over by extreme surfers, a grizzly bear in its natural habitat, and 3D clips from various worldwide sporting events.

Typically streaming services will either release all episodes of a new show at launch, or they will post new episodes each week. So far, neither of those things have happened. This is literally unheard of in the modern streaming world. Why haven’t new episodes of these shows been released yet? They clearly have unaired footage recorded (as proven in the immersive trailer), why are they holding off releasing it on Apple TV+? Secondly, why haven’t any more immersive shows or specials been announced? A streaming service is only as good as the content it offers, and if you are recurrently billing for access to it, you MUST offer a pipeline of new content regularly! At the same time a service like MAX or Netflix would launch a new show, press releases would always follow announcing new seasons, specials, or content that would be coming next. It just isn’t in Apple’s interest for them to remain silent.

The Apple TV+ service has been lagging behind in adoption since its launch, immersive content is the one hand it can play to leapfrog over its competition! Until new episodes get released, if you happen to have a Vision Pro, or are getting a Vision Pro demonstration from a friend or family member who has one, I absolutely recommend giving every one of these new immersive shows a watch, whether you’re a TV+ subscriber or not. As per Apple’s policy, non TV+ subscribers are allowed to watch the first episode of most of their series, and the immersive shows currently available are not an exception to this policy. The Vision Pro launched on a Friday, and for the past two months, I have kept my eyes glued to the TV application in anticipation for any new episodes to be posted. Vision Pro owners, join my vigil, will you?
