Gears of War 3 Chapter 1 Commentary October 9, 2011

I don’t normally do a recording of the final version of a game, but while co-oping the opening of Gears of War 3, I found myself subconsiously doing commentary on the game (and annoying my co-op partner quite a bit). It turns out I know a lot of background information about the history of Gears of War, so I decided to do a commentary for the very beginning of the game.

I don’t plan to do any further commentary on the game itself, but if you’re interested, I did enjoy the game quite a lot and recomend it to all Xbox 360 owners (or even people on the fence about owning an Xbox 360). I don’t plan to do any further commentary for any other games, but hey you never know.

If you would prefer to see me have higher quality gameplay videos, feel free to check out my support page and send me a capture device!

Gears of War 3 is out and exclusive to the Xbox 360.

Gears of War 3 Epic Edition Unboxing and Review September 23, 2011

You’ve been waiting two days for it, and here it is.  The Gears of War 3 Epic Edition for the Xbox 360, all one hundred and fifty dollars US of it!

First off, Maniac cracks it open and does an unboxing of everything that’s in it, including the Limited Collector’s Edition, which is also included with the Gears of War 3 Epic Edition.  I have followed the Gears of War series since it’s very beginning, and while doing the unboxing you might catch the tidbits of one of my best gaming stories.

People have asked me to do reviews for these Collector’s Editions for quite some time, and so I have started to do them.  A quick reminder, I rate Collector’s Editions on a scale of Required, which means “you must go out and buy this right now.”, Fanboys Only, which is self explanatory, and Don’t Bother, which is also self explanatory.  The factors that go into this decision include price, as well as the quality of what’s included with it in comparison to the price.

Remember to stay tuned after the credits for a hilarious postscript!

Gears of War 3 Epic Edition Size Comparison September 21, 2011

The Gears of War 3 Epic Edition continues the trend of Microsoft publishing ENORMOUS Collector’s Editions (with an enormous price to match), that have been shared in games like Halo 3 and Halo Reach.  I’ll do my review and unboxing of the game a little later, but I want you guys here to have some idea about just how big the box this game came in is, and how it compares to other Collector’s Editions I own.

I actually did the math to compare the volume of each of the largest Collector’s Edition boxes I own, and let me say that it is definitely up there, on par with the size of the Halo Reach Legendary Edition, and easily beating out the size of every other large Collector’s Edition I owned (regardless of shape).

Of course comparing the Halo Reach Legendary Edition box to the Gears of War 3 Epic Edition box was kind of pointless, as there is a clear winner to the largest Collector’s Edition box, and that’s of course for the Rock Band Collector’s Edition which included the game with guitar, drum set and microphone.  I don’t have any of the Guitar Hero World Tour or Band Hero Collector’s Editions so I can’t compare those, but Rock Band 2’s CE box was somehow made smaller.

But, for a game that shipped with no extra peripherals, It’s STILL a pretty big box!

Gears of War 3 Release Day September 20, 2011

For the three of you who may not know, today marks the release of the biggest Xbox 360 exclusive game of the year, the highly anticipated Gears of War 3.  Don’t know what that is?  Take a look at this!

Unfortunatly I was not able to participate in the midnight release festivities of the game, but I already had the Epic Edition of the game reserved and went in to pick it up as soon as I possibly could, which was this evening.

I had a slight concern that GameStop would have given away my copy of the Epic Edition since the game had been on sale since Midnight (when Grand Theft Auto 4 launched GameStop sent out a letter telling clerks not to even bother honoring Preorders).  So, COG tags on, and wearing my Gears of War 3 hoodie jacket with a Crimson Omen on the back, I went out to collect my preorder of Gears of War 3, and I have some rare good words to say about GameStop’s staff from when I was there.

You can expect an unboxing of the game tomorrow!

Gears of War 3 is out now exclusive to the Xbox 360!

It took a month.  I played through all three games, getting 100% completion in each one, scanning every item, and getting every bonus credit. Now that it’s all done, I wanted to post up my thoughts about this site promotion, what I thought about the games, and if I may do something like it again.

Happy Birthday, Samus!

Let’s Play No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise September 9, 2011

No More Heroes is my favorite game for the Nintendo Wii.  Based on the recommendation of my friend Twitch, I picked the game up just after I bought a Wii (when it was just making it into the bargain bin).  The game itself was a fun romp with good use of the wiimote controller, good art direction and gameplay, and an interesting adult story.

The game did not do well initially.  The last thing I mentioned in the last paragraph was “an interesting adult story,” and many critics believe that the wii’s audience just does not accept games directed towards core adult gamers, and the audience the game was seeking for would own either a PS3 or Xbox 360.

The game follows an Otaku who meets a bombshell one night at a bar and offers him the chance to join a league of assassins.  Armed with his beam katana (which is basically a lightsaber), he and the player sets out to be the best assassin and make it to the top.

With the release of the Playstation Move controller, a controller very similar in control scheme to the wiimote, Konami has brought an HD version No More Heroes to the PS3 in the States with full Move support, called No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise.

The demo is out on Playstation Network, so Maniac dusts off his Move Wand (which hasn’t gotten use since Dead Space Extraction was released) and gives a go at the demo, which covers the very first ranking battle.  Like with all my previous lets plays, I take a look at it in glorious HD and see just how it plays in comparison to the original Wii version, as well as talk about my history with the series, and some series tidbits.

Let’s Play God of War Origins Collection Demo September 7, 2011

My first God of War memory falls five years ago, when I saw the demo for the first God of War game on a Playstation 2 demo unit in my local CompUSA. For years, I’d make a trek to that store for cases of Bawls and cheap software, and it would remain the only game included in that demo unit. I thought the game looked fantastic for a PS2 game, but knew nothing about it, its origins, or it’s eccentric creator.

Not too long later, my friend Twitch, who I recently got an SNES working with, told me he had this brand new console game for his Playstation 2, and since I didn’t have one myself, I just had to see it for myself. What Twitch showed me blew me out of my chair. The game looked phenominal. The opening hydra battle was one of the most exciting gameplay sequences I had seen of the previous console generation, and Twitch really knew how to sell it to me by showing it on his new HDTV with his surround receiver. It was loud, fast paced, intuitive, and exciting. I had to have this game.

Later that year I bought a Playstation 2 for my birthday. For Christmas 2005, I got the very first God of War game as a gift. I played it the entire holiday and enjoyed it tremendously.

Two full sequels have been released for the game. One for the PS2 in 2007, which was the final first party Sony game for that platform, and one for the Playstation 3 in 2010, which has become one of the highest rated games for that platform. Two side stories were also released for the Playstation Portable. God of War: Chains of Olympus, which was released after God of War 2 and took place before the events of God of War. The other was God of War: Ghost of Sparta which released after God of War 3 and took place between the events of God of War and God of War 2.

God of War fans have wanted these portable games on the major console platform since Chains of Olympus was released, and now they’re finally coming. This week, the demo for the game has been released to all Playstation Network users, and I take some time off from my Metroid Prime run to play it.

God of War: Origins Collection is coming September 13th, 2011 exclusive to the Playstation 3. Howver, you can still buy God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta for the Playstation Portable.

Getting Friend Vouchers in Metroid Prime 3 September 1, 2011

I’m continuing my gaming journey to 100% Complete all Metroid Prime games in honor of the 25th anniversary of Metroid’s release.  Since I 100% completed Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2, I have started playing through Metroid Prime 3.

I was disappointed to discover I would be dependant on others for certain in-game bonus content unlocks.

Green credits, which are required to unlock some in-game content like the screen shot tool or mii bobblehead, must be sent by other users who unlocked friend vouchers by doing various achievements in the game.

Since these games are rare and Metroid Prime Trilogy is out of print, I decided the best course of option to have any chance of unlocking this content is to bring my game over to diskreader117’s house and do this little trick I discovered while playing through the opening of the game.  I wanted to share it with anyone who may be playing through these games recently.

This trick will work in either Metroid Prime 3 or Metroid Prime Trilogy.

As a thank you for those who have been following my adventures, I will be giving these friend vouchers away to anyone who posts their friend code on my website.  Please specify in the comment which game you have, and feel free to send any friend vouchers you want to me in return.  I say this because friend vouchers are not compatible between the two games.

Maniac and Twitch get a Ten Year Old Super Nintendo Working August 31, 2011

Maniac is joined by his good friend, Twitch of Twitchgaming.  Twitch brought over his Super Nintendo which has been in storage for about ten years, and we see if we can get it up and running on a modern high definition surround sound system.

Can you believe all it takes is a standard definition video cable that ship standard with all Wii and GameCubes?
