You’ll probably be noticing a new link next to the “about maniac…” tab  marked “support gamexcess.net”.  Since I cannot advertise on this website due to WordPress guidelines, and because of that I make no income from it, a good way to keep up with the latest gaming releases I decided to go ahead and create a purely voluntary system the biggest fans can get involved with.

You can check out the Amazon Wish List here.  I’d really appreciate it if people took a look.  If you really like the website and all the content one guy working by himself can produce, please consider sending something on it my way.  It would allow me to put more content up on the site and I’d be more than happy to do a full video review and unboxing of anything sent.

I made it no secret when I did my article on how to transfer data to a new Xbox 360 slim that I make no money whatsoever from this website.  I do this website not because I make money, but because I want to offer a better option for gaming news than what is currently offered by “larger” sites.  WordPress does not allow advertising on their websites (which I cannot understand if you own your own domain), and my YouTube videos are also devoid of advertising.  Because of that, I also do my best to pull any trailers or content the second they become sponsored in order to keep the playing field even, and also because I consider them pretty harassing.

The downside of this is without any income I’m not able to get all of the latest hardware I’d like to in order to do the content I’d like to do on this website.  I just can’t afford it.

To rectify this I was considering linking something like an Amazon wish list to the website, with a whole bunch of stuff I’d like to review or comment on but obviously can’t due to cost.  The kinds of things on the wish list would mostly just be games or the new Xbox 360 Slim.  Obviously nobody would be under any obligation to even look at the list, but I could assure you that I would happily unbox and video review anything sent to me for the site.

I think it would be the best option, it would allow me to keep new content coming on the website, and keep the site advertising free.  It also shouldn’t upset wordpress, but who knows.

gameXcess now has a .net domain!

I have recently purchased the domain gamexcess.net and tied it into the website!  If you’ve previously tried accessing the site from it’s domain gamexcess.wordpress.com, you will be automatically redirected to our new domain.

If you’re just now visiting the website, welcome!

Editorial Series Coming Soon: “What Makes Good Atmosphere in a Video Game?” July 6, 2010

Due to the lack of Post E3 ™ news, I’ve found myself without much to post to you regular viewers.

To correct this, I’ve decided to do an editorial series over the next few days, entitled “What Makes Good Atmosphere in a Video Game?”  Every editorial will be about a different atmospheric feature.  The important thing however will be that these items (which are my opinion and probably my opinion only) will be quite suprising.  Suprising because I’m not going to talk about what you think I’m going to talk about.  Graphics and sound will NOT be listed.

So stay tuned for, “What Makes Good Atmosphere in a Video Game? Part 1:  Fake Ads”.  The first part in an ongoing series, coming soon.

Due to the expected lack of Post-E3 ™ news I haven’t been able to post as much new information as I’d like to for all my regular readers.  So I’ve been working more on tweaking and refining the backend of the site for optimal browsing pleasure.

You’ll notice there’s now a subscription bar in the lower right corner of the page under the twitter feed.  You’ll also notice a new About… section in the sidebar, with new information on the site and it’s purpose.  I decided to keep the “about me” tab for anyone interested in who I am, and have the “about” be for the site itself.  Hopefully that’ll assist the new people coming in from the search engines.

Enjoy the changes.

If You Arrived From a Search Engine, Welcome June 24, 2010

Since the start of the website, I’ve been unsuccessfully trying to get my articles to show up on a topic search from any of the major search engines.  For some reason, the site did not show up on any major search engine I used.

I did some digging into the site’s backend and I think I was able to add the site into the developer tools for the search engines of Bing and Google.  So if you were able to get to this site from a search for any of the content that I’ve talked about, welcome.  If you want to see if I’ve talked about anything else you’re interested in, search bar’s on the top right under the banner.

It took all day long to post up the amount of news I had on this website.  That plus the amount of professional websites I’ve seen, and the new official twitter application for the iPhone made me decide that bringing in a Twitter feed would be the best thing I could do for the site.

Maniac’s Twitter feed can be viewed in the righthand bar of the website right under the archives links.  You can also load the twitter page manually here.

I found a much better version of the Portal 2 demonstration and updated the site accordingly for those who think it looks differently.  I’m also working as best as I can to pull the videos that currently feature advertising (*cough* G4’s) and replace them as soon as possible, you shouldn’t have to deal with watching ads for much longer.

I’m Trying to Upload Videos June 15, 2010

I’m trying my best to scoop most of the major game news organizations by scooping them with the news from the E3 confrence before they can post them up themselves.  Because of that, I’m posting up the news as soon as I can, and if the videos are unavalible to go along with the news, I can either dig it up from an unofficial source, or wait for someone to post them up (EA’s pretty good about posting their YouTube videos, but they’re just not being timely).

I’ve chosen to post the news first when made, and post up the game’s trailer when it becomes avalible on YouTube.  That means that while at first in some cases you might not see a game trailer with a news post, just wait a while and I’ll probably have one up later.

Keep checking this site for the latest in E3 news, posted before all the other guys can finish twiddling their thumbs.

I’ve currently updated my videos from my BulletStorm preview and my Crysis 2 preview, so recheck those posts for some thing you hadn’t seen before.

The greatest gaming event of the world, I know because I attended two of them, is starting today for the next few days!  The games!  The spectacle!  The Electronic Entertainment Expo!

Feel free to expect tons of gaming information over the next few days.  Major announcements are BOUND to be coming out.  I’m already looking forward to seeing previews for Dead Space 2, Mortal Kombat 8, F.E.A.R. 3, and that’s just what has been officially announced.  Also expect Sony and Microsoft to display their motion control systems.

Unfortunatly the Dear Playstation video I submitted to Sony didn’t get this site into E3.  However, I fully plan to submit a formal application for entrance next year, using this site as my credentials.  Next year, guys, next year.
