We are way behind on releasing some of the videos we had planned for this site and one of the videos we ended up shooting a while back was an unboxing of the PS4-exclusive game Days Gone. We first got interested in the game Days Gone after previewing it at E3 2017, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on the game’s official collector’s edition. Let’s take a look at what’s in the box!
Days Gone is out now exclusively for the PS4.
Gaming History You Should Know – Pokemon Center NYC January 12, 2020

It’s Sunday! Welcome back to the first Gaming History You Should Know of 2020, where we highlight some of the best original gaming documentaries from across the web! Today, we’re going to take you back nearly twenty years (which sadly doesn’t seem as long ago as it should for someone like me) to take a look at something that sadly we will never have the chance to experience ever again.
Pokémon Centers have always been a staple of the Pokémon games. They’re a haven in nearly every town where players can take their characters to heal their Pokémon, swap out their Pokémon party or activate their link cables (or wireless adapters later on) to communicate with other trainers. In essence, they’re the coolest place for a Pokémon Trainer to hang out and I’m sure that many kids (and some adults) wished places like that existed in the real world. Well, did you know that Pokémon Centers do actually exist in the real world?
That’s right, there are actually Pokémon Centers all across Japan, they just function differently than they do in the games. They are decorated from top to bottom in awesome Pokémon decorations including original statues and art. In them, customers can buy tons of exclusive Pokémon merchandise ranging from plushes, figurines, snack food, clothing and a lot more. Players could also (depending on the location) interact with original Pokémon games you couldn’t find in stores OR eat incredible Pokémon-themed food at the in-store cafe. If I ever earned enough money to afford a vacation in Japan, you can be darn sure I would try to visit as many of these places as I could!
But these Pokémon Centers, while completely awesome, only exist in Japan. I’ve heard there are a few vending machines in the Seattle area that sell a limited selection of their merchandise, and a website also exists online which ships a limited selection of their wares to the US, but that’s it. No actual physical Pokémon Centers exist in the United States. However, that hasn’t always been the case.
What if I told you that a Pokémon Center used to exist in the US? One did. Located near the heart of Rockefeller Center in New York City, Pokémon Center NY was a Mecca for all Pokémon Trainers on this side of the planet. Here’s the actual television commercial for the store which contains some rare footage of its interior.
Doesn’t that look incredible? Sadly, I never was lucky enough to visit this place while it operated. It lasted only from 2001-2005. Video and photographs of it are rare and hard to come by due to the fact the store had a no cameras policy (for SOME reason that escapes all logic). However, we’re not here to talk about what the store looked like, we’re going to be featuring the hard work of an entire group who made it their mission to preserve the history of this magical place.
YouTube Channel Hard4Games, which specializes in finding and preserving extremely rare game content hit the gold mine with this video. After what must’ve been a MASSIVE undertaking by a group of some of the best preservationists and Pokémon Enthusiasts in the world, they succeeded in finding and resurrecting a major original component of Pokémon Center NY, the store’s Pokémon distribution machine. Take it away, Hard4Games.
The location previously used as Pokémon Center NY now serves as Nintendo NY (formerly Nintendo World NYC), which sells exclusive Nintendo and Pokémon merchandise you can’t find anywhere else (however Japan’s Pokémon Centers certainly have a bigger selection). I have actually been to Nintendo NYC (twice) and can’t recommend visiting it enough. While they no longer are a Pokémon Center, they do have a history of Nintendo museum on the second floor with some rare and classic items on display from the company’s history.
Special thanks to Hard4Games and the team of preservationists including Retro Ali for making this video and letting me feature them on this site! Without their work I would have never been as informed about this incredible store as I am now. Pokemon Go Plus or PokeBall Plus – What Should You Buy January 7, 2020

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced the year’s first Pokemon Direct video will broadcast on Wednesday at 9:30am EST. That leaves me little time to give my thoughts about which currently available Pokémon Go accessory you should buy!
After Pokémon Go launched, Nintendo released a companion Bluetooth accessory called the Pokémon Go Plus which allowed players to make use of certain Pokémon Go features without having to actively run the app on their device 24/7 without putting it into standby. It cost $35US and uses a 2032 battery. A year ago, Nintendo released a new Pokémon accessory, the PokéBall Plus. It has a price of $50US and functions as a Nintendo Switch Controller (but only for Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee), a PokéWalker, and a Pokémon Go Plus.
What should you buy? Watch below and find out.
If you’d like to see more information about the Nintendo Switch functionality with Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, you can watch it here.
Pokémon Go is still free to download right now for compatible Android and Apple Smartphones and Tablets.

We love the PlayStation VR headset very much but we weren’t happy with the audio headphones that came with it. Thankfully the GEN 2 PSVR has a standard headphone jack that can support any wired headset plugged into it. After scouring the Internet for headsets that would comfortably fit over the PSVR I found the perfect headphones to complement the VR headset, the Sony PlayStation Gold.
We are going Let’s take a look and see what’s inside!
We might do a review of how this works in the future.
Gaming History You Should Know – History of Super Mario Bros 3 December 22, 2019

Its Sunday and that means it’s once again time to post another Gaming History You Should Know. In this series, we highlight some of the best independently produced content from across the web focused on the history of gaming. Today, we’re going to be highlighting a brand-new video produced by someone we’ve talked about before, Norman Caruso, better known to the world as The Gaming Historian.
In the late 80s, Nintendo was utterly dominating the video game market and would go on to legendary status in popular culture. In fact, many il-informed adults still believe Nintendo is the only company to ever make video games due to their complete dominance at that time. The NES console, (with its legendary exclusive games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Tetris, Duck Hunt, and Metroid) was selling huge numbers with no end in sight. There was just one problem.
Super Mario Bros 2 released in Japan and due to extreme difficulty and its identical graphics to the previous title, never was released in the United States. However, Super Mario was just as recognizable to young people of the time as Mickey Mouse and it was nearly certain Nintendo could make another hit for their console if they released a new Mario game in the US. Could they do it? Watch the video below and find out!
Special thanks to Norman, The Gaming Historian for doing this video about a game I cared about so much. Most people cite Super Mario World as the best Mario game ever made. For me, Super Mario Bros 3 is not only the greatest game on the NES, it is the greatest Mario game.
Super Mario Bros 3 can be played on the NES, Wii, Wii U, 3DS and Nintendo Switch.
Games I Would Like to See Come to Stadia December 22, 2019

Google sent us a brand-new Stadia Founders Edition last week and we have been enjoying our time with it so far. However, as of the time this article is being written our ability to play games on it is limited due to its current limited selection of games. Let’s be honest, Stadia needs a big catalog of games if it wants to gain more subscribers. That said, the infrastructure is already in place to make that happen, and Google has promised more games are coming to Stadia in the next few weeks. Having our own experience with Stadia, we thought it would be a good idea to give Google some recommendations on current games that might work well on the platform.
So what games do we think would work well on the Google Stadia platform, a game streaming service which does not require downloads or patching? We have plenty of ideas and here’s some we would like to share with Google! Please note games that are already out or have been promised for the Stadia (such as Marvel’s Avengers or Doom: Eternal) will not be included on this list. We’re also not going to include first or second-party Nintendo titles, as Nintendo has made it clear they do not port their platform-exclusives under any circumstances and we don’t see the point of including those on this list. (Ed. Note– That said I would make a vote for Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield). We are also going to keep this list to games released this year.
- Control – This summer’s hottest game can really swallow a lot of your free time with its Metroid-esque environment and continuous ability unlocks. I would love to see how this game runs on the Stadia. Also, Remedy would be able to regularly drop new patches and game content seamlessly without having to download or update anything on the players end! Who knows, Google’s servers might even be able to support the ray tracing mode meant for PCs That combined with the higher resolution assets that must exist (because Remedy confirmed there will be a next-generation rerelease of the game) could make a Stadia version of Control the best looking game on the platform.
- Detroit: Become Human – This is actually not a platform exclusive for the PS4 as people are now able to get it on PC. As an adventure style game with an incredible high resolution art style, the game is practically perfect for the Stadia. Button presses for conversations and QTE segments are common player prompts in the game, and the Stadia’s network should have no problem working within a framework like that. If there was one game I would feel could truly thrive in Stadia it would be a David Cage game.
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – This game is like GTA Jedi, an open-world environment where players can explore many worlds in the Star Wars universe and be the star of their own new cinematic adventure. The problem is the game currently suffers from very long load times and occasional in-game performance issues during cutscenes due to the cinematics hiding loading screens. Stadia’s servers could provide the processing power this game needs to run at its best and cut the load times.
- The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan – I have not played the first game of this anthology yet but if Supermassive’s previous title, Until Dawn, is any indication, this game could be just as perfect for Stadia as Detroit: Become Human would be.
- Death Stranding – Thankfully, this is not a PS4 exclusive, as a PC version is currently in development. That PC version could be reworked for Stadia. This is an enormous game with incredible ultra high-resolution graphical assets. Its multiplayer component allows players to exchange messages and notes, helping each other along the way. This is practically perfect for Stadia, a platform players can drop in an out of anywhere they’d like!
So those are just a few games I could think of that I felt would be a great fit for Stadia. Post a comment below with your thoughts but be aware we intentionally listed games from this year to give Stadia the best chance at showing off the best possible looking games.
