Something from the world of Halo has just entered the real world. Pringles has teamed up with Microsoft and Walmart to offer an exclusive limited-time flavor based on the beloved ostrich-looking Moa from Halo: Reach. It is called the Moa Burger flavor and we are going to be trying it right now in Maniac’s Kitchen.

Japan Travel Tips – What To Know Before You Leave March 16, 2021

As we promised, it’s time for us to kick off our new series Japan Travel Tips! In this series, we’re going share with you some of the best independently produced documentaries designed to help international tourists who wish to visit Japan. After surviving 2020, you can be sure I REALLY want to travel, and why not travel to a country that is the birthplace of some of my favorite games of all time?

Our intention with this series is for each one to tackle a specific theme, in as chronologically an order as we can get. Follow-up articles that can go deeper into a specific theme are certainly a possibility. For our first article we decided to share some of the first things anyone who wishes to travel will need to know.

You’ve booked a trip with a major airline to travel to Japan. Before you take the first step of your trip there are some things you’re going to want to know before you get on the plane. People who don’t live in Japan may not be aware of some of the nation’s customs or “quirks” if you will. So what should people know before they leave for Japan? Well, I’ve got two great videos to share with you today that answer exactly that. Sit down, relax, and get ready to watch.

First off, we’re going to highlight Greg Lam, host of the series Life Where I’m From. One of the first videos of his that I’ve ever watched was this one. to explain some of the most important things to know about the country in what he called “The Rules that Rule Japan”. Enjoy, it’s in glorious 4K.

If you’re wondering about how politeness and etiquette work in Japan, there’s another must watch video you need to be aware of. The series Abroad in Japan, hosted by Chris Broad, has a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of what NOT to do when you’re in Japan.

Let’s review. Here’s a rundown of things I think you should know before leaving for Japan.

  • Its a good idea to stay on the left when walking unless you see signs marked otherwise or crowds doing otherwise. Follow crowd traffic and you should be fine.
  • It is probably a good idea to practice using chopsticks since it is a common utensil for eating in Japan.
  • Don’t pass things with chopsticks.
  • Don’t eat, drink or smoke while walking.
  • Be respectful at shrines and temples.
  • Don’t tip.

So this was our very first article on our new series! What did you think of the videos? Post a comment below and tell us what you thought about it, or if there are any topics you think we should discuss in future videos. However next time we will be talking about traveling, and what you should know when you arrive at the airport.

Upcoming Site Feature – Japan Travel Tips March 15, 2021

Due to the current world events, international travel has been a no-go. That said, when that restriction eventually gets lifted, I can think of a lot of places that I’m going to want to visit and one of them is Japan.

I’ve made it no secret on this website that I have a strong fondness for Japan. They’re a country rich with history and culture and the home of some of the best game development companies in the world including Nintendo, Sony and Square Enix. In my lifetime, Japan has always had the best technology, incredible food, and beautiful sights.

So can a friendly but non-native language speaking tourist such as myself fully enjoy Japan on their own or with another non-native speaking friend? Japan certainly has its own (for lack of a better word) quirks I certainly want to know about before I visit the nation. So, over the past year I’ve been compiling a list of some of the best independently produced documentary videos about the country. They are produced by a wide range of filmmakers and each give their own important device on traveling, eating and etiquette. I thought that now Universal Studios Japan is nearly ready to open their incredible Super Nintendo World, the time was right to share my research with tourists from all over the world will want to visit.

So, for the time being we will be creating a new topic on the site we will be referring to as our Japan Travel Tips. Each article will focus on tips for a specific topic and provide detailed videos that address the topic. We hope you all enjoy the new series, so stay tuned!

Gaming History You Should Know – History of Metal Gear March 14, 2021

Happy Sunday welcome back to Gaming History You Should Know. Traditionally, we highlight some of the best independently produced gaming documentaries from across the web and we’ve got a great documentary to highlight for you guys today!

I don’t have much of a chance to talk about it on the site these days, but I owe a lot of my love and interest in console gaming to the original PS1 game Metal Gear Solid. From the first moment I played the introduction demo over at my cousin’s house and saw the game’s story and presentation laid out over the first hour of the game I was absolutely hooked. I broke my “never console only PC” rule and picked up a PS1 of my own so I could play the game for myself and never regretted it. I unlocked both endings and even earned the tuxedo suit. However, after completing everything I could in the game I found myself wanting more. I needed to know if there would be a sequel so in late 1999 I devoted myself to learning more about the game and the history of the people who made it.

On the first day of E3 2000, I was one of the first people to view the Metal Gear Solid 2 announcement trailer, and from then on I followed the gaming industry with great interest. More games would follow, and we would also receive ports and remasters over the years. If you ever wanted a complete history of the Metal Gear series, Channel Requires DLC has an ongoing series called From Pixels to Polygons, where they’ve highlighted the history of franchises ranging from Legend of Zelda to Metroid. Today, we’re going to highlight their video about one of my favorite franchises of all time, Metal Gear Solid. Take a look:

Hope you enjoyed this incredible history lesson. Special thanks to Chanel Requires DLC for letting us feature them on this site. If you’re interested in checking out another one of their Pixels to Polygons videos you can watch their Metroid video here and their Legend of Zelda video here.

Metal Gear Solid is out now for the PS1. It is part of the PlayStation Classic. Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 were released on the PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360. Metal Gear Solid 4 was released exclusively on the PS3.

Batman: Dying Is Easy Released March 11, 2021

I know I’m highlighting a film and not a video game today but it impossible to remove the cultural impact the character of Batman has had on video games. Created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Batman existed as a superhero with no actual powers. What he presented was the ultimate embodiment of a human who endured a life tragedy and used it as a motivation to achieve complete mental and physical perfection. While he (as a character) has been presented and refined in many different forms over the years, including the incredible Batman: Arkham Asylum games I feel that his live-action interpretation has been done best by his greatest fans, particularly the people over at Bat in the Sun.

For two decades, Bat in the Sun has been creating independent comic book films. In each one, they’ve improved their craft and now I’m happy to announce their latest film, Batman: Dying is Easy, has been released. Starring Kevin Porter, Michael Madsen, Doug Jones, and Aaron Schoenke, the film has to be seen to be believed. You can watch it below:

How Many Pokemon TCG Cards I Obtained After Eating McDonalds For a Month March 10, 2021

In February, fast food restaurant McDonalds teamed up with The Pokémon Company and offered fifty exclusively marked Pokémon Trading Card Game cards based on every unique starter from every generation (including Pikachu). Twenty-five cards would be offered as non-foil cards, and the exact same twenty-five would be offered in foil for a total of fifty unique cards.

Instead of going to the store and buying up the entire stock, we decided to play fair. We wanted to see if it was actually possible to a hungry kid to obtain all fifty cards over the course of the promotion. Each Happy Meal card pack came with four cards, and each pack had one foil and three non-foils. For fairness, we only ate at McDonalds once a day (on average) for the length of the promotion, and we cut the promotion off when our area’s McDonalds ran out of their supply.

How did we do? Let’s see what we got in glorious 4K HDR.

A security update for pretty much all Apple devices was released earlier today. It’s not very big, ranging between a 110-150MB download, but it can take a while to process. It isn’t expected to include any new features, but it should include some bug fixes. So if you have an iPhone or iPad, you’re going to want to get it as soon as possible.

The new update can be installed through your device’s software update menu or iTunes.
