So how do you play? Tickets are $4.99 US and can be purchased through your device’s respective App Store. If you don’t have a credit card, you might need to buy a gift card for either iTunes or Google Pay because you can’t purchase a ticket with PokéCoins.

Of course there are other ways to play. Live streaming will be happening throughout the 2-day event, and Niantic published a free page full of crafting items for fun or decoration. If you are a Google device player, you may be entitled to some free goodies when you log in.

If you plan to get a new iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch and don’t know what you need to charge it, I’m here to help you. If you don’t l know what MagSafe is or if Thunderbolt and Lightning is very very frightening, relax. I’ve produced a new how-to video for you.

While it would be better if Apple provided a unified document about what kind of charging their devices can handle, I have done my own experimenting and would like to share my research with all of you. Enjoy.

Gaming History You Should Know – Donkey Kong Country Dissection July 11, 2021

It’s Sunday, and this is the long-awaited return of Gaming History You Should Know, where we highlight some of the best independently produced gaming documentaries across the internet. As a person who grew up playing games almost exclusively on the PC, I never owned an SNES or Nintendo 64. Quite a shame, as in the mid-90s, Nintendo was in the middle of a renaissance reinventing what they could do with their classic properties for the 90s. Games like Super Metroid and Link to the Past not just revolutionized the games that came before them, but set a new standard for gaming later games would have to meet. But what do you do when you have a character like Donkey Kong?

Donkey Kong, created by Shigeru Miyamoto, was an arcade game which put you into the shoes of the iconic Jumpman (later named Mario) where you had to tangle with the titular Donkey Kong in a quest to save your girlfriend, Pauline. It was a great game for its time, but by the 90s it would be the character of Mario that Nintendo was known for, not Donkey Kong. To bring DK back into his rightful place of Nintendo’s pantheon, Nintendo needed to create a new Donkey Kong game for the 90s. They tasked the studio Rare, who brought in SGI 3D-graphics workstations that could create a game to win back players’ to the great ape. The game would be called Donkey Kong Country and it would be a tremendous success.

YouTube star MistareFusion, who I’ve been inspired by ever since I saw his comparison of the original Power Rangers shows with the Sentai it was based on, produced this great video about the classic game. He covers it’s history, the technical aspects about the game and what made it so ground breaking for the time. It’s a great look back into the era and I totally recommend giving it a watch.

Donkey Kong Country is out now for the SNES. It can be played on the Nintendo Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Online service.

We’re a little over a week away from this year’s Pokémon Go Fest and Niantic has teamed up with Google Play and the Try Guys to give you a preview of this year’s event! It takes the form of an interactive video which we’ve linked below. Give it a watch, and then choose what you want to do and how you want to play. They will offer a few tidbits about upcoming challenges, and you may want to replay it a few times to make sure you get every piece of information.

Just wanted to make a note here. You’re going to want to watch this on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Watching it on a smart tv (my preferred method) was kind of hit or miss. I wasn’t able to get the interactive portion to function when streaming from a smart device to a Google Chromecast Ultra, but it worked fine on my Samsung Smart TV’s native YouTube app.

Pokémon Go Fest 2021 is coming July 17th-18th. Tickets are purchasable in-game for $4.99 US.

Pokémon Go is out now for Android and iOS tablets and smartphones.

Nintendo Switch OLED Announced July 6, 2021

Low and behold, the newest revision of the Nintendo Switch…with a 7” OLED screen, a wider kicksstand, and a wired LAN port in its dock. I present, the Nintendo Switch OLED.

The price is $350US and the release date is October 8th, 2021. I have to admit I’m on the fence about this one. While I like the improved screen and wider built-in stand, the handheld, unfortunately, will not output to home televisions in 4K. That said it is a fine option for people who want to buy a new Switch either for the first time or as an upgrade from the Switch Lite.

Nintendo is just weeks away from re-releasing one of the most revered 3D Legend of Zelda games of the past decade, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Now, it looks like they’re spending some of the big money they’ve earned from Switch sales into some snappy new TV commercials for the game. Take a look and see where Nintendo put us in the clouds.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming July 16th, 2021 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
