Back when Nintendo was actively promoting the Nintendo 3DS platform, they offered a free WiFi infrastructure across the US to promote the platform’s internet capabilities, which provided exclusive content and features that players could not get anywhere else. It was called the Nintendo Zone, and in its heyday could be accessed by popular venues including McDonald’s, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, Home Depot, and AT&T stores.

How well did it work? What exclusives were offered? Watch below and find out!

While searching for ideas to help him work on his arcade basement, he discovered the publisher Bitmap Books and their encyclopedia-quality video game coffee table art books.

We have unboxed some of their products in the past. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at them by discussing their books, what our experience was like buying from them, and our recommendations. The company’s published releases clearly pride themselves on archiving gaming history, and we’re going to talk about that right now!

Nintendo Quest Free On YouTube July 17, 2023

A documentary I tremendously enjoyed watching back when it was on Amazon Prime is now free to watch on YouTube (depending on your region). The movie is called Nintendo Quest and it details the story of Jay, a gamer and game collector, and his desire to collect ALL of the 678 original official games released for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

To succeed, Jay has to start from complete scratch and make all his purchases in person at various secondhand game shops. He’s not allowed to use the web to place online orders. He isn’t required to purchase unofficial games like the TENGEN titles, or promo titles like the Nintendo World Championships.

Will Jay complete his quest? Watch the documentary and find out! Don’t know how long this will be on YouTube for, so give it a watch when you get the chance!

Silent Hill Ascension – Behind the Scenes July 11, 2023

Many years ago I was one of the few players of a game called Majestic. In the game, I participated alongside an online community to solve a (fake) conspiracy. It released in episodic method, with each episode taking a few days in real time to solve all the puzzles and conclude the chapter of the story. Sadly, the game flopped and the servers shut down within months of finishing what was supposed to be the game’s first season. Twenty years later, the developers of an upcoming Silent Hill game look like they’re going to take a page from the online community playbook with Silent Hill Ascension.

If you’re like me after you saw the initial announcement of this game, you’re asking yourself, how will this work? IGN produced an exclusive look behind the scenes. Clear your schedule, they’re going to do it live.

Silent Hill: Ascension is coming later this year.

GYLT Released on PC and Consoles July 7, 2023

When Google Stadia first launched it had a grand total of ONE exclusive title, the independent story based platformer GYLT. The game has a unique art style and clearly told a story that was very personal to the development team. However, Stadia would not take off as quickly as Google expected and not much promotion was done for the game, despite the fact it was the only Stadia exclusive. After Stadia was shut down, I remember being heavily concerned about the status of GYLT, especially given the fact that it was such a cool game that risked being lost forever.

I’m happy to report that the game’s developer has announced GYLT has been rereleased for purchase on PC and consoles. Let’s take a look at the launch trailer!

GYLT is out now for PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
