Does anyone remember when I was raving about Sony’s E3 2013 Quest in Playstation Home?  Well, it looks like Sony is doing something like it once again to celebrate the launch of the Playstation 4.  A new area, dubbed the Greatness Awaits space, has a quest that all PS3 owners can join.  If you participate in it you can earn download codes for three classic Playstation games, Warhawk, Twisted Metal, and Destruction Derby.

You will enter the Greatness Awaits playspace automatically the next time you log into Playstation Home.  To start the quest just talk to the guy next to the giant Playstation Vita.  The PS1 games can be redeemed through the Playstation Store.  They should be playable on the PS3, PSP or PS Vita.

Playstation Home is free to play only on the Playstation 3.

There was no game I wanted more for the Xbox One at launch than Dead Rising 3.  I’ve been a huge fan of the series since the first game came out on the Xbox 360, and now the third game looks like it truly takes advantage of the power of the Xbox One by giving what many have been wanting for years, an open world zombie survival game.

So what makes this the Day One Edition, and what are the benefits to it?  Lets take a look, shall we?

UPDATE: I believe the provided code has been redeemed.  Don’t worry, more game unboxings and giveaways will be coming all weekend.

Xbox One Chat Headset Close Up November 23, 2013

When the Xbox One’s package was first announced, a lot of gamers cried foul that a headset was not going to be included with the system like it had been with the Xbox 360.  Microsoft hadn’t considered packing a headset with the Xbox One because the Kinect’s microphone array could allow for in-game party chat, negating the need for personal headsets.  Well, gamers preferred having their own personal headsets and eventually Microsoft changed their mind and included a personal headset with the Xbox One.

The Xbox One comes with a simple mono headset very similar in design to the Xbox 360’s headset, and like the Xbox 360’s headset, it uses a very proprietary audio port to connect to the controller.  Let’s take a closer look.

If you preordered BEYOND: Two Souls at GameStop and got the Special Edition version of the game, you already have this DLC.  Otherwise, the price is $4.99 US.  BEYOND: Two Souls is out now exclusive to the Playstation 3.

Ten Things To Do in Anticipation for the Xbox One Launch November 21, 2013

With the Xbox One launching at midnight tonight, I’m sure that there are many of you who are chomping at the bit to get your newest Microsoft console, but just be aware there is plenty of stuff that you can do right now to make the process of playing it all the faster.  We already did something like this with the PS4’s launch, and now it’s the Xbox One’s turn.

  1. Watch our Xbox One Preparation Video, which has a lot of the most recent information on the Xbox One for anyone who plans to pick up the console at launch.
  2. Get those last Xbox 360 Achievements in now, because while your Gamerscore will carry over to the Xbox One, the Xbox One will not be able to play Xbox 360 games.
  3. Buy a Xbox Live Gold Prepaid card if your subscription is due to expire soon.  GameStop informed me a few days ago that Microsoft was planning to release a Day One Xbox Live Gold prepaid card that was solid metal during the Xbox One launch, so if you would prefer to get one of those, just wait.
  4. Pick up any of the games for the system that are already out and have no street date, like Call of Duty: Ghosts.  Or pick up the extra peripherals that have already been released including the Xbox One Controller or Play and Charge Kits.
  5. Make sure you know your Xbox Live login information so you can transfer your GamerTag and profile quickly to the Xbox One.
  6. Download the Xbox One SmartGlass App to your Android iOS or Windows Device.  Microsoft chose to release a separate companion app for the Xbox One instead of upgrading the current one.  SmartGlass functionality will be used in some of the Xbox One’s launch titles including Dead Rising 3, so be sure to download it.
  7. Make your cable or satellite provider upgrade your HD box to one that is equipped with HDMI if it is old.
  8. Stock up on plenty of Mountain Dew or Game Fuel if your area is carrying it.
  9. Clear some space in your living room for the new Kinect.  Got a table in the middle of your living room for no reason?  Yeah, move it.  The new Kinect will not require as much open space as the first model did, but you’re going to need some open space with no obstructions between you and the camera to make full use of it during gameplay.
  10. Make a list of all the Xbox Live friends you would like to add to your friends list but can’t due to the Xbox 360’s 100-friend limit.  The Xbox One is going to allow a 1000 user Friend List so expect plenty of friend requests from old acquaintances to come.

The Xbox One is launching tonight at Midnight for a price of $499 US.

Xbox One Smartglass App Released November 20, 2013

When it was first announced, Microsoft promised that the Xbox One would be controlled in three ways. One was by a controller, second was by the Kinect and the third was through a completely revised version of Xbox SmartGlass. Today, in anticipation of the release of the Xbox One on Friday, Microsoft has released one part of that control system, the Xbox One SmartGlass app.

The new SmartGlass app allows for secondary Xbox One control and new features in games that support it, like the launch title Dead Rising 3 or the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V. Curiously, Microsoft chose not to update the already existing Xbox Smartglass app, and instead released the updated SmartGlass for Xbox One as a completely seperate app. So if you already have SmartGlass installed on your mobile device or PC, you’ll need to go searching for the new version.

The Xbox One SmartGlass app is free to download on your iOS, Android or Windows device right now. Just search for the Xbox One SmartGlass app in your respective digital marketplace.
