We’re slowly getting back into the swing of things here on the site, but we wanted to re-report on something that flew under our radar that happened last week. Meta held their Connect event Keynote, hosted by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. In it, he shows off the newly released Meta Quest 3, as well as some big new features that I have been seriously looking forward to.

As a Quest Pro user, it was surprising not to hear anything about that hardware, most of the talk seemed to revolve around either the Quest 2 or Quest 3, but I am still interested in seeing what Meta has in store. We both know Apple will be releasing their own googles in just a few months, and it is possible that this Keynote was meant to show that Meta’s can do now what Apple is saying their hardware can do when it launches later on (for a MUCH higher price).

I guess time will tell who is right. Maybe I’ll need to create a VR War history series in the future? Wouldn’t that be something?

Earlier tonight, Sony broadcast this major commercial for one of the biggest PS5 exclusive titles this year, Spider-Man 2. It includes no gameplay footage but it perfectly sets the scene for the current attitude of the game’s two main characters. That’s right I said TWO.

Spider-Man 2 is coming October 20th, 2023 exclusively to PS5.

The Last of Us is a game that absolutely revolutionized the medium from the first day it was released, and despite it being released two console generations ago, the game’s enduring fandom has kept its spirit alive. The original game has seen multiple re-releases and remasters, and the plot of the original game has been adapted for television for HBO MAX, where it can be watched.

Every year on this date, Naughty Dog hosts The Last of Us Day, and this year is no exception. This is a big day for the game’s community, and while Naughty Dog has told us they could not release any new information about either a future game, or a follow up on the next season of the HBO MAX show, they did share this special concert by the legendary Troy Baker. Enjoy!

UPDATE: HBO MAX has released this documentary about the making of the first season of The Last of Us television show. I haven’t had the chance to finish watching the season yet (I’m only about halfway through with it) so I’m in no rush to watch it just yet, but any of you are welcome to watch it, and you can be sure I will be watching it once I’m finished watching the rest of the season.

The Last of Us, Part I is out now for PS3, PS4, and PS5. The Last of Us Part II is out now for PS4.

macOS 14 Sonoma Released September 26, 2023

Earlier today, Apple has released the latest macOS, Sonoma, for compatible Mac computers. The requirements for the new OS is pretty steep, and will not run on Apple computers that predate a 2017 release, with the exception of the 2017 iMac Pro.

The new OS comes with a ton of highly anticipated new features, and you can read all the details about the new features here. It weighs in at 6.5 GB. On an M1-powered Mac Mini, the update only took around twenty minutes. A sister update for the Mac Studio Display was also released, but cannot be installed until after the Sonoma update has concluded.

Normally I wouldn’t report about something like this on a gaming website. However, Apple is promising that this new OS will empower them to deliver more games for the Mac platform. Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is going to be coming out by the end of the year, and Apple says it will run on the current Apple Silicon computers.

An update, version 17.0.2, has also been released for iPhone and iPad devices this evening. The update is meant to assist with issues transferring data between iOS 17 devices. At this time there does not appear to be an update for Apple TV or Apple Watch.

Mind of Maniac – The Time Dungeons and Dragons Was Attacked September 26, 2023

Sit back, Maniac is going to get very controversial on this episode. Back in the early 80s, life was good so for many. Crime was down, fear of war was receding, and technology was making a lot of people’s lives easier.

You’d think this was a time for people to be happy, and they were. However, it was an awful time for people who relied on making money by spreading words of fear on television and radio. So, completely out of touch with their times, instead of shutting the organizations down as failures they decided amongst themselves to dig into one of their oldest tricks, and attack the things young people enjoyed. In the 40s, it was comic books. In the 60s it was rock and roll. In the 80s…it was Dungeons and Dragons.

Never forget: Young people can’t vote, and have no advocates to defend themselves against relentless disinformation attacks. Here’s Maniac’s take on what happened and his thoughts on what will come of it in the future.
