Telltale Games Has Closed September 22, 2018

It is my sad duty to inform you that the company Telltale Games, responsible for games like The Walking Dead, Minecraft: Story Mode, The Wolf Among Us and Back to the Future: The Game has closed down. No definitive word has come down yet on what will happen to the games Telltale have in development including the latest season of The Walking Dead. It is highly likely the second season of The Wolf Among Us is cancelled.
Telltale Games came to prominence in 2007 with the Sam & Max Episodic Games. This was a year after many companies including Valve and Ritual had decided to branch out and create games based on an episodic business model. Ritual would not survive past releasing the first episode of their planned nine-part episodic game. Valve would not continue to release episodic games after The Orange Box. How did Telltale do well in this market? They charged up front for future episodes whereas the other companies would not.
In the past few years, Telltale has been known for creating some incredible games. My favorite among their most recent releases was The Wolf Among Us, but I also loved Sam & Max, Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. Their good work, according to the studio, simply did not translate to sales.
I’ll miss Telltale a lot, not just because of what they made but because of what we will lose from its closure.

Sony is Making a PS1 Classic September 19, 2018

Nintendo was so successful with their classic console line Sony has just announced they will be releasing a classic console of their own, and can you get any more classic than the PlayStation 1?
The PS1 Classic will ship December 3rd 2018 for a price of $99.99 US and include twenty games including Small Arms, TEKKEN 3 and Final Fantasy VII. To play the system, it will include two wired original PlayStation controllers (not Dual Shock).
We currently don’t have a competed game list and that is a shame. Unlike Nintendo’s consoles which have two dozen first-party titles everyone wants to play, most of the PS1’s greatest exclusives were made by third parties, bringing doubt into the quality of the final game list. While Final Fantasy VII is being included, it currently doesn’t list Metal Gear Solid or Silent Hill, the two best games for the system. You also won’t be able to play the PS1 Classic out of the box. Even at a price of $99.99US, the classic won’t ship with any AC Adapter. Hopefully you have a USB-type charging adapter lying around that should be able to power the unit.
You can read all the details about the PS1 Classic here.
Nintendo Switch Software Update 6.0.0 Released September 18, 2018

I’m sorry to say online multiplayer for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 is now over. Nintendo has just released a major software update for the Nintendo Switch. This new update brings in the new premium Nintendo online service which offers 2-player online NES classic games, and cloud save backups. An updated Nintendo Network smartphone app has also been released on Apple’s App Store and Google Play to make use of the new premium features. Online multiplayer on the Nintendo Switch now costs $20US a year.
Since nobody else has asked it I guess I will. If Nintendo can offer this kind of service for $20 a year as well as offer something similar to Game Pass, what’s Sony and Microsoft’s excuse for charging $60 a year on top of other paid services like Game Pass or PlayStation Now?
Kingdom Hearts III Big Hero 6 TGS 2018 Extended Trailer September 18, 2018

As a child of the 90s, I grew up watching the films we now refer to as part of the Disney Renaissance and it was so heartwarming to experience these worlds myself when I played the first Kingdom Hearts games. However, over the past few years I feel that Disney has entered a new renaissance with their in-house animation studios producing hit after hit like Wreck it Ralph and Big Hero 6. These new classics are being used as the basis for all-new worlds in Kingdom Hearts III.
Today, Square Enix released an extended trailer for their take on the world of Big Hero 6, and if you hadn’t told me I would have believed it was a trailer for the sequel. Better turn the subtitles on because this trailer uses the original Japanese voice over.
Kingdom Hearts III is coming January 2019 to the Xbox One and PS4.
