It’s time for another match of Team Deathmatch on Thrashball. This time, Maniac is joined by diskreader117 in this video, a person who has not played a single Gears of War game in his life.
The controller switches hands a few times, but you can hear both of our comments. As you can see, it is EXTREMELY difficult for a person completely unfamilar with Gears of War’s controls to get a handle on this game, and most attacks that will cause death in this game will usually happen instananously, making conventional machine gun attacks impractical.
We still won the game, overall, but that was probably more due to us being matchmade with a better team, and for the fact I made a consious effort to not get killed, since I knew that killing enemies the way I wanted to (with stop and pop) was just not going to happen.
Of course this is still a beta, and the weapons all have time to be tuned before the game ships in September. If you got a copy of Bulletstorm feel free to join the party and unlock everything you can. If you had just preordered the game, your codes won’t be active until the 25th.
Gears of War 3 will release September 2011 exclusive to the Xbox 360.
Gears of War 3 Beta Footage and Comments April 19, 2011

Hey, at gameXcess we’ve been playing a lot of the Gears of War 3 Beta. For those of you who don’t have access to it yet, here’s just some preliminary gameplay footage I’ve been able to upload so far.
Here’s a little quick peek at some of the menu screens, showing statistics and what the game considers important for medals, ribbons, and chararacter unlocks. Now please be aware that unlockables between the beta and the retail game are different, but I don’t think that awards and medals will be changed.
And here’s footage of the first game I played. Please be aware that I SUCK at my first game. The reason is becuase I was at first playing a different game than the seasoned reviewers were. I had thought that the stop and pop gameplay of Gears of War would be enough to defeat your enemies. I was wrong. The only way to really get a surefire kill under any circumstances in this beta is to get up close and personal for a one hit kill, with something like a sawed-off shotgun or a instant kill impalement. (And for the life of me I could not get the chainsaw to work but I’ve always had the problem). By mid-round I switch to a shotgun and my tactics improve, and my team wins the game.
More footage will probably be coming later.

It’s April 18th and that means that the Gears of War 3 Multiplayer Beta Test has gone active for this first week.
Want to get in on this beta? Here’s how.
You’ll need a copy of the Bulletstorm Epic Edition.
The beta will go active for those who preorder Gears of War 3 on the 25th of this month, one week from now. Those who play in the beta this week will get access to the exclusive Flaming Hammerburst Weapon for the final version of Gears of War 3.

Got a new Xbox 360 Slim and notice you can’t play Halo 3 ODST through online cooperative mode, or that it can’t play Xbox 1 games? You probably have the 4GB model that doesn’t have a hard drive.
You can buy a hard drive for the new slim, but it’s not quite clear how to install it.
Maniac shows you how to open up the Hard Drive bay in a new Xbox 360 Slim, and how to install a new drive. It’s REALLY hard to find if you don’t know where it is.

The camerman and I went to Best Buy today to pick up two of the new Apple HDMI adapters, which, while intended for the iPad 2, are also compatible with the iPhone 4, iPad, and 4th Generation iPod Touch.
But there is something fun you can do with these things on the iPad 2 you can’t do on any of the other hardware. You can mirror everything you see on the iPad 2 on an HDTV at a resolution as high as 1080p! Take a look as I show you how you can do it, all you need is an Apple HDMI Adapter, USB Cable with applicable charger, and an HDMI cable.
If you don’t have an iPad 2, this cable will still support video playback up to 720p for Videos and YouTube if you use an iPad 1, iPhone 4, and 4th Gen iPod Touch, but only if you have iOS 4.3 installed.

Maniac unboxes the Bulletstorm Epic Edition for the Xbox 360, which includes access to the Gears of War 3 beta.
Bulletstorm is avalible for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. What makes the Xbox 360 version of the game EPIC opposed to the other versions of the game which are just considered limited editions, is on top of all the day one downloadable content included in the game (such as an exclusive map, free XP, and the ability to change colors of some of your effects) the Xbox 360 grants you access to the Gears of War 3 beta (details here) a week before other Xbox Live Gold users will get it.

iPad 2 Released March 11, 2011

At 5:00pm today, the iPad 2 has been released to the public at almost every store I’ve seen. The unknown cameraman wanted one today, and we figured that the best chance we’d have to get one would be at a store that didn’t overtly flood our e-mail accounts that they would be selling one today, and that was Target.
So, here’s what it was like at my local Target. There are no Apple Stores in my area and Best Buy’s line was full by the time we got there. We were able to get an iPad at our local Target just arriving on the scene 15 minutes before 5.
My apologies for not doing an unboxing with this, I really wanted to but it was something that they were not comfortable doing. I can tell you that it includes pretty much everything an iPhone 4 came with, a USB cable, AC adapter, headphones, a quick setup guide, and Apple stickers. I did not see a dock included (which is something I think the iPad 1 did have) but since I was not permitted to see the unboxing I don’t know if it was deeper in the packaging.

LAN Parties used to be the staple of social gaming. You get a bunch of friends old and new together at a venue (usually someone”s house) and you network them together to play against each other. Over the years, some of the LAN parties I’ve held were among the best times of my life.
Want to host a LAN party but don’t know what you should do? Well, I’ve hosted plenty of them over the years, and I have a lot of experience on what works, and what doesn’t. Here’s some tips on how to host a kick-ass LAN party.
