Podcast 6 – Dead Space January 28, 2012
Posted by Maniac in Podcasts, Site Videos.add a comment
For the sixth gameXcess.net podcast, I discuss the multiplatform franchise Dead Space from EA and Visceral Games. Since 2008, there have been two multiplatform main games, one Wii game, two animated features, an iPhone/iPad game, and several novels. In the podcast, I talk about my first experiences with the game, why I enjoyed it so much, my background with horror and where I think the series is headed next.
Check back next time for a podcast discussion on Gears of War!
Maniac Plays The Darkness II Demo January 18, 2012
Posted by Maniac in Site Videos.add a comment
The Darkness II released its demo for the Xbox 360 yesterday to Xbox Live Gold Subscribers and Maniac gave it a play on camera. While on the surface it may seem like the same content that was shown at the New York Comic Con, it’s actually a much more refined and expanded version of that section of the game with tighter controls.
The demo will be released to all regular Xbox 360 users next week, as well as the Playstation Network and Steam, but if you can’t wait that long, take a look.
If you’re interested in seeing more of The Darkness II, 2KGames will be streaming the first hour of the game next Thursday, the 26th of January at this site.
Podcast 5 – Resistance January 16, 2012
Posted by Maniac in Podcasts, Site Videos.add a comment
Since the last podcast I’ve done covered a currently Xbox 360 exclusive game, I decided to do a Sony exclusive property this time around and talk about the Resistance series, which has currently released three games for the Playstation 3, one for the Playstation Portable, an online social game, and one is currently in development for the Playstation Vita.
The very first Resistance game, Resistance: Fall of Man, was a launch title for the Playstation 3 and was considered by everyone to be the must have game for anyone interested in buying the Playstation 3 and the later games in the series were heavily anticipated (and in some cases controversial).
As I usually do with these podcasts I talk a little bit about the history of the game series, how it affected me personally, and what I’m looking forward to. Check it out!
By popular request, next up will be the multiplatform game series Dead Space by EA.
Cheap Horror Games to Play While Waiting for Silent Hill HD Collection January 10, 2012

The Silent Hill HD Collection, which is an HD re-release of Silent Hill 2 and 3 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, has been delayed two months. It was supposed to be released at the end of January, but when I went to place a preorder I was informed the game was delayed until March. No reason has been listed for the delay but that means I’m going to have to wait two more months to finally have my own copy of Silent Hill 2 and 3.
How can I cheaply kill time until then, and get my horror fix? Well, here’s some games you can find brand new for less than $20 to kill time while waiting.
Podcast 4 – Alan Wake January 5, 2012
Posted by Maniac in Podcasts, Site Videos.add a comment
Maniac does his new podcast on Alan Wake, which, unlike the previous podcasts which discussed franchises which saw many game releases, is a franchise that so far has released just one game. For a game that has only one release so far, has six years of stories from its development and with new games on the horizon the potential to become a major franchise.
In the podcast, he talks about the history of the game’s development, what has been released so far and what’s coming up next for the franchise.
My Date With the Calendar Man – Day 4: New Year’s Day January 2, 2012

Happy New Year’s everyone! Hope you had a fun and safe celebration of the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012. I happened to spend most of it with my family, which, along with issues I’ve been having uploading videos to YouTube using their web client is the reason why there hasn’t been as much content as I’d like being posted on the site.
But this is a holiday, which means that per gameXcess.net tradition, we have to pay a visit to Julian Day, better known as the Calendar Man, at his cell in Arkham City. Bawls in hand, we head into Arkham as Batman to pay him a visit.
We’ll pay him another visit on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.
The Gunstringer Unboxing December 31, 2011

I’ve been a huge fan of Twisted Pixel after the release of Comic Jumper, and their most recent release has been a straight to retail Kinect game. While this is unlike any release they’ve done previously (they usually release games for download either through Steam or Xbox Live Arcade), The Gunstringer still provides all of Twisted Pixel’s signature humor, and was a game I found myself playing all night.
Here’s an unboxing of the game.
And for those of you who have copies of the game already (or plan to pick it up), there are currently two DLC campaigns for it. The first is free to all players and is a wonderful shout out to the classic FMV games of the arcade, The Wavy Tube Man Chronicles. Just so you know how stylized it is, this is the original introduction for it.
The other has just been released for 240 Microsoft Points, and is called Reel Big Shootin’.
My Date With the Calendar Man – Day 3: Christmas December 28, 2011

Merry Christmas Everyone. Apologies for not getting this uploaded Christmas Day as I should have, but I barely had enough free time to record and edit it, let alone upload it, and when I finally did have the chance to upload it, YouTube gave me problems.
Santa Claus hat on, I decide to pay a visit to Julian Day, better known as the Calendar Man, in his cell in Arkham City, to see if he’ll talk to me today. Let’s see what he has to say. I got the Batman: Arkham City graphic novel as a gift this year. It’s a pretty good, albeit short read if you want to see some backstory about just what happened between Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
The next time we can visit him will be on January 1st, New Year’s Day.
Resistance 3 Unboxing December 26, 2011

I make it no secret that the Resistance series of games is probably my favorite Playstation exclusive property. I finally was able to pick up the final game of the Resistance series, Resistance 3, and I must admit for a game that didn’t have a CE release, it has some really nice packaging.
Unlike Resistance 2, there was no major Collector’s Edition for this game release. The closest thing they had to one was a copy of the game, bundled with the Playstation Move’s sharpshooter, which having demoed it at E3, I don’t recommend using the play the game.

This is the RAGE: Anarchy Edition for the Xbox 360, made by id Software. Following a recent trend, the Anarchy Edition of RAGE is the same price as the normal edition of the game, and offers players free access to some downloadable weapons.
This is also out for PC, and Playstation 3.
