Maniac’s guest Twitch knows classic role playing games like the back of his hand. While he enjoys modern western RPGs, he grew up playing classic RPGs from Japan, and he has plenty of knowledge and opinions about all of them. This week with the release of Xenoblade on the Nintendo Wii, Twitch decided to give Maniac a little history lesson on Japanese RPGs and the Xeno-Series.

Comic Jumper Captain Smiley Statue Unboxing April 13, 2012

Continuing the post-pax coverage I noticed that there was some popularity to showing off some of the goodies I got at the event. I’ve wanted a statue of Captain Smiley since first playing Comic Jumper: The Adventures of Captain Smiley.
Twisted Pixel was at PAX East this year showing off Ms. Splosion Man on iPad (which you can read my preview of here) and I decided now was the best time to put down the cash for this. In fact, the guys at Twisted Pixel were willing to sign it for me free of charge.
Take a look at this high quality gaming collectible!
You can get one of these for yourself on Twisted Pixel’s website.

If you want to give the original version of the song a listen, it’s free to download on Twisted Pixel’s official website. You can also hear it in Comic Jumper: The Adventures of Captain Smiley on Xbox Live Arcade.
What Was Cut from Half-Life 2 April 5, 2012

Half-Life 2 was a game that I have quite a connection with. I was one of the first people to see it demoed live at E3 2003 and E3 2004. I was one of the first members of the press to hear the announcement of Counter Strike: Source, and when the time came, one of the first players to beta test it.
Half-Life 2 was in development at Valve Software for around five years. While the final version of the game was undoubtably one of the best PC games of all time, there were a few things that just couldn’t make it into the final version of the game, as well as a few scenes that were extended or altered from their original design.
Armed with the books he’s read and his own knowledge of the game’s development, Maniac talks about what was cut from Valve’s 2004 PC Game of the Year, Half-Life 2.

Hey gang, for those of you interested in the third generation iPad, we’ve got you covered!
This is the iPad 32GB with 4G LTE Cellular support. With help from Maniac’s sister, we crack this thing open and run it through the initial iTunes setup process. We also compare this to an original model iPad in size, shape, weight, speed and picture quality.
Now, we did skip a few steps for purposes of time in the setup process. Maniac recommends if you previously owned an iPad to load your previous backup into it (otherwise it won’t transfer your Contacts, Calendar, Photos, Notes or e-mail to the new device).
