Star Wars Film Jedi Prime Announced – It Was Originally a Video Game May 17, 2024

Hollywood has recently been set abuzz that director James Mangold (Logan) may be working on a new Star Wars Film project referred to as Jedi Prime. The plot of the film revolves around the first person in the Star Wars universe to discover The Force, becoming the very first Jedi. Shortly after their discovery, another being discovers their own connection to The Force, becoming the very first Sith.

We have a very long memory here at GameXcess.net, and Jedi Prime rang several bells in that memory. It turns out, that was one of the concepts pitched in some of the final years of LucasArts, Lucasfilm Limited’s video game developer/publishing house.

According to the historical record, the Jedi Prime concept was passed on by LucasArts and The Force Unleashed would eventually be released to massive fanfare. However, the concept of the first Jedi fighting the first Sith has a lot of promise, and we think it could make for a great film. Here’s to hoping it will get a wide release!

Mind of Maniac (and Wife) – Should You Wear Vision Pro To a Wedding May 8, 2024

We have a special treat for you all today! In today’s video, Maniac is joined by his wife, Princess Angel, to provide two very important thoughts about a recent public event. Since Apple released Vision Pro earlier this year, the world has not made adjustments in polite society for how people should use a wearable computer in public! Recently, a groom was photographed wearing his Vision Pro during his wedding, and the event immediately became an overnight sensation.

However, the people attacking the groom for wearing a Vision Pro during his wedding clearly had no experience with the Vision Pro or how it functioned. Because of that, their attacks on his character were (at best) surface level on his appearance. That’s not a problem for this website, as we actually have a Vision Pro, and can provide a unique insight into the event based upon the public photos that were posted. Due to some very minor naughty words, we’ve restricted this video to 18+.

Want to save five dollars and get a computer that could theoretically be a hundred times slower than its slightly more expensive counterpart? It’s a PC, they’re all the same aren’t they? Welcome to Tales From IT, where we share the occasional cautionary tale of what happens when you don’t listen to your IT (and the cost associated with it).

If you’re unfamiliar with “Certified Refurbished” PCs, they are PCs made up of older components that cost just a little bit less than a brand new one and are SOOO much slower! So why should you get one if you’re not planning to run legacy software on it? I don’t know. Here’s a story about a client of mine who wanted to save the five bucks. Decide for yourself if it was worth it.

In what is our first, and most likely ONLY review of an actual vehicle, today we’re going to take a look at the Toyota 2024 RAV4 XLE Hybrid. Now, as a gamer, our needs in a car goes way beyond what can be expected by the common man, especially since we expect to spend most of our time using it stuck in traffic. Because of that, we were more interested in the car’s technological features, such as charging capabilities and CarPlay support, instead of (to us) unimportant things like horsepower.

The video for the following review was recorded with a hands free camera. All driving was done by a licensed driver.

Tips for Using AirPods With Vision Pro April 1, 2024

We’ve been using Apple’s Vision Pro for over a month and there’s a lot of things we’ve been wanting to share about our experiences using it with you. When it was first revealed, Apple made it clear the Vision Pro would work with AirPods.

First off, we would insist you only consider using either the AirPod (3rd Generation) or AirPod Pro (2nd Generation) with Vision Pro. Both have support for integrated spacial audio, which is phenomenal. We also recommend initially setting your AirPods up with an Apple device such as a recent iPhone that has a FaceID/lidar front sensor. This allows for more accurate spacial audio calibration.

So how does it work when it works? Watch below and find out.

Hope you all enjoyed the video. The big kicker about what pair of AirPods you should purchase will likely boil down to the question of if you want to have noise cancelling capability when using them with the Vision Pro. If that is a case you MUST get the 2nd gen AirPod Pro model

Memories of Maniac – Tom Clancy’s Netforce March 18, 2024

Welcome back to a new Memories of Maniac and today we’re going to be talking about something from twenty years ago. In the late 90s, techno-thriller author Tom Clancy lent his name to an entire generation of Ubisoft games, such as Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six. What you may not remember is Clancy is also credited with the concept of multiple book series, which, over twenty years after its initial publishing, may be closer to reality then we expected.

Today, we’re going to be talking about Netforce, a Tom Clancy book-series which was adapted into a made-for-tv movie. It followed a branch of the government focused on the internet in a future where it was entirely accessed through VR. Today, we’re going to talk about both the books and the movie. Twenty years later, let’s talk about the books and see what they successfully predicted.

Lost Media – Final Fantasy XR March 6, 2024

Welcome back to our look into Lost Media, where we discuss gaming content that is…lost.

Did you know there was a Final Fantasy Roller Coaster? There was, for a few months in 2018 at Universal Studios Japan and it was called Final Fantasy XR. It was created to celebrate that year’s Universal Cool Japan event. It featured exclusive recognizable props and scenery, and had a full overlay with original Final Fantasy footage created in VR just for the ride. Since the coaster closed, the exclusive VR footage created for the coaster’s overlay has never been re-released and is considered lost media.

Here is our thoughts about it, and our hopes that the footage will eventually be found and re-released for current VR devices.

If anyone has access to the original VR master of the ride, please provide it to the internet archive. Currently you view the only footage we’ve been able to find about the ride from Way To Dawn, EDAMAME and Yukendoit.

Lost Media Follow Up – Sanity: Aikens Artifact (Part 1) February 29, 2024

In the year 2000, Monolith released the game Sanity: Aikens Artifact. The game was ground breaking for its time in that the developers chose to enhance the game by giving special “downloadable bonuses” which would unlock exclusive multiplayer “talents” only the players who had these abilities could use in their games. I know, doesn’t that sound like EXACTLY EVERY OTHER GAME ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW? You’d be right, but as far as we remember, Sanity: Aiken’s Artifact may have been the first game to offer exclusive bonus DLC.

Unfortunately, nearly all promotion for the game ceased as soon as Monolith ramped up promotion for their follow up game, No One Lives Forever. Because of that, no further talents ended up getting released beyond the initial few, despite talks that a lot more were expected to come out. In the 20 years since the game came out, Sanity: Aiken’s Artifact has never seen a re-release, and iit was believed those DLC bonus talents have been lost forever. Here’s an update on what has found in the time since he first talked about preordering the game back in the day.

Lost Media – Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII February 22, 2024

Maniac tells a story about a Final Fantasy VII spin off most of you have never heard of, but would’ve been revolutionary if it actually came out.

Before Crisis was an episodic RPG/visual novel which released in 2003 for Mobile Phones. If a leaflet I was passed to at E3 could be believed, there were plans to offer it for sale here in the US, but the generally poor quality of our country’s cell phones of the time likely put an end to that chance. Sadly, it never came out in the US, and the central server required to play the game in Japan was shut down many years ago.

So what was this game and why is it considered Lost Media? Watch and find out!

Welcome back, we’re continuing with our promised coverage of the Apple Vision Pro! Much has been said about the weight of the Apple Vision Pro. In our experience using it for over two weeks, its weight has not been an issue as it actually weighs less than the Quest Pro we previously used.

This is how we prefer to use our Vision Pro for maximum comfort and we wanted to share our preferred way to use the device, on our sectional couch.
