How to Upgrade the PS4 Hard Drive March 6, 2015

The Playstation 4 shipped with only a 500GB Hard Drive and let’s face it, a combination of required installations, DLC and a great selection of digital only releases will fill that drive up pretty quickly.  Thankfully, Sony allows Playstation 4 owners to upgrade their hardware with new and improved Hard Drives, as long as they meet the Playstation 4’s specifications.

But how do you change the drive?  Well, I would recommend checking out this website to read Sony’s official procedure on how to perform the upgrade.  But words are really just words, you’re going to need to perform actions and sometimes reading instructions isn’t enough.  That’s why you can find a detailed step-by-step How-To video which should help you through the process below.

You will need a recent version of the Playstation 4’s Software once you replace your drive.  You can find and download that software right here.

Site Video Updates and a Special Request March 2, 2015

Apologies for the lack of site videos recently, but there is a very good reason for it that I’ll get into later.  It’s no secret that my How-To Videos are some of the most popular videos I’ve produced for this website, and recently we’ve been planning to make more of them, but we just haven’t had the opportunity to do any more until now.  Maniac’s trusty Playstation 3 has started acting up on him, and instead of replacing it, he’s going to try to fix it by replacing its eight year old internal Hard Drive with something newer.  The Playstation 3 has excellent tools for backing up and restoring user data, and if you plan to replace your PS3’s Hard Drive, you’re going to want to know how to use them.

But why stop at upgrading a PS3’s Hard Drive?  Why not show how to replace a Playstation 4 Hard Drive as well?  It can be done with easily obtainable equipment, and we’re going to show you how very soon.

A few days ago, Nintendo released the 1.3 update for Pokémon X and Pokémon Y and are now requiring that users have it installed before they can make use of the games’ online features.

Updating games on the Nintendo 3DS isn’t exactly a straightforward process like on most other consoles. Game updates typically need to be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop, which requires an Internet connection and the most recent 3DS firmware already installed to access it.

Once you have all that taken care of, watch the video below to see how to update your game.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y are out now for the Nintendo 3DS.

A extra feature of the March 2014 update was a firmware update for the Xbox One controller.  From what I’ve heard, this new controller firmware was released in cooperation with Titanfall’s development team, and should make the controller work better and be more responsive, on top of making the controller compatible with Microsoft’s new Xbox One Stereo Headset.

Unfortunately, the controller does not automatically update with the Xbox One when the March 2014 is installed.  You will need to do a few extra things to update your controller.  However, it’s a simple process, and here’s how to do it.

How To Transfer Your Miis from the Wii to the Wii U November 26, 2012

Hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving weekend!  For those of you who picked up brand new Nintendo Wii U consoles I’m sure you’re going to want to use it to the fullest potential you can, and for those of you who have other Nintendo devices or handhelds, you can do some cool things with them!

Any Mii data that can be stored on your Wii will transfer over to the Wii U, but the cool thing is that Nintendo has worked in a way to transfer Mii data across all their platforms, and a Mii originally created on a Wii can transfer easily from a Wii to a Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL, and then from the 3DS to a Wii U without needing a home network or any memory cards.

You’re probably asking yourself, well if you already had the Pikmin transfer all your system data from the Wii to the Wii U won’t any Miis you create in the Wii transfer along with the rest of your system data?  Well, they do and they don’t.  Any Miis transferred from a Wii to a Wii U will transfer along with the rest of your system data, but they will not transfer into the Wii U’s Mii program.  Instead they will be stored in the Wii System Menu for use with legacy Wii games and programs.  If you want to bring them into the Wii U, you can, but you’ll have to transfer them manually.

What You’ll Need:

  • A Nintendo Wii
  • A Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL
  • A Nintendo Wii U

Make sure you have the latest firmware already installed in all your devices.  Okay, first off, lets get the Mii from the Wii into the 3DS shall we?  Here’s how to do it.

For those of you who already have transferred all your system data from the Wii to the Wii U, this procedure will work in the legacy Mii Channel stored in the Wii System Menu.  All your old Miis from your original Wii should be in there.

Now that we have the Mii on the 3DS, it’s a very simple process to transfer them from the 3DS to the Wii U.  In fact, you can do this when you set up your initial Mii when you first install the Wii U.  Just make sure that the Mii you want to transfer in your 3DS is set to allow copying.

You’re done!  Any Miis transferred from the 3DS can be used for anything, including Nintendo Network and Miiverse.  You can even set a 3DS transferred Mii as your main Nintendo Network avatar!

UPDATE:  If you don’t have a 3DS, you can still transfer your Miis from your Wii to your Wii U, so long as you already transferred all your Wii data to the Wii U.

In the Wii U’s Mii Maker program, select the Send/Receive Mii and then select Copy from Wii Menu.
