Stadia is Dead September 29, 2022

This official statement has just been posted on the official Google Blog. They are ending Stadia support in January 2023. Google says they will refund all hardware purchases made through the Google Store.

I have to admit, this is disappointing but hardly unsurprising news. In my opinion, a streaming game service will only be a good consumer option if sold exclusively on a subscription basis. That way, in the event the service ceases, the user will simply stop being charged their monthly subscription fee. Stadia sold entire games at full retail price through their service. That means those full priced games can no longer function in any way once Stadia is shut down. Meanwhile, anyone who bought a copy of the same game at the same price on a different platform or online service will still be able to play. This is the fear most users had when Google announced Stadia. Their fears were clearly merited.

As someone who was an initial adopter of Stadia, I’m assuming the Google Chromecast Ultra I got with my package will still continue to function. I’m also assuming the Stadia controller will continue to function as a PC gaming controller if connected over its USB cable.

Paul Morgan Stetler, known for his iconic role as Curtis in the classic PC horror adventure game Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh, has expanded his series Conversations With Curtis to do interviews with the creators of iconic games. Yesterday, he was able to publish his interview with legendary game developer Graeme Devine, known for his work at companies like Trilobyte, id Software and Ensemble Studios.

I’ve been aware of Mr Devine’s work for some time. Mostly I was familiar with his work on PC games at id Software, particularly DOOM 3, but I also tremendously enjoyed the first Halo Wars. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to watching this interview. Take it away, Curtis!

Phantasmagoria 2 is out now for PC. The 7th Guest is out now for PC. Halo Wars is out now for Xbox 360.

It’s been three years since the release of Remedy’s Control, an incredible third person action/thriller game. Now, the actors who played the game’s protagonist and antagonist have gotten back together to answer the fans questions about what it was like for them making the game and how they feel about the characters they portrayed.

Oh and can I just say Sean’s mustache is just awesome.

Control is out now for the PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch (Cloud), Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

iOS 16.0.1 was released shortly after the release of the iPhone 14 to address authentication issues some new device owners were experiencing with FaceTime and iMessage. However, it only was offered to iPhone 14 devices. Now, another minor but important update has been released for iOS 16 devices. It fixes specific camera shake issues noticed in third party applications. This has been a known issue since the launch of the iPhone 14 line, but it also addresses issues reported in the iPhone X and iPhone 11.

The new update weighs in at around 360MB and can be downloaded through your device’s software update feature or through iTunes.

As promised earlier this week, Apple has just released major updates for the Apple Watch, Apple TV and iPhone platforms.

The updates include an incredible amount of new features including the ability to alter and delete messages sent from your iPhone.

The updates can be selected right now. However, I must make a note that you will not be able to update your watch to WatchOS 9 until after your iPhone has upgraded to iOS 16.

Mac and iPad owners will find incremental updates for their platforms today (containing mostly bug fixes and compatibility resolutions), however their next generation OS updates will not be released until October.

Rare DLC for inFAMOUS: Second Son and inFAMOUS: First Light Released to All September 12, 2022

A lot of people don’t know this, but when the PlayStation 4 was first announced, the franchise I was most excited to see a new game released for the platform wasn’t Uncharted or Resistance, it was actually the new inFAMOUS titles.

In the open-world inFAMOUS games, you played as a urban superhero (or Magic City Man if you prefer). You chose if you wanted to use your powers for selfish reasons or for the common good. When the first two games (and one digital expansion pack) released on PS3, they really impressed me. When inFAMOUS: Second Son was revealed alongside the PS4, it became a must-buy for me when I got the platform.

Each game came with download codes for exclusive content to those who preordered the games. In the years since the game released, the exclusive preorder DLC (including an exclusive story-based mission and character skins) were never offered as a separate download and as such are rare experiences. Now, I’m happy to announce developer Sucker Punch have made that preorder content free for anyone to download off the PlayStation store. If you haven’t played the game without this DLC, now would be a great time for a new playthrough.

Here’s to hoping this is a trend that continues. I know a major component of Until Dawn was only playable to people who preordered the game digitally off the PlayStation Store. It would be nice to finally play those scenes.

inFAMOUS: Second Son and inFAMOUS: First Light are out now for the PS4.
