Official Metroid Retrospective August 19, 2010

In order to promote the upcoming release of Metroid: Other M later this month, Nintendo has released an official retrospective on the Metroid story, narrated by Samus Aran herself.

It’s a great starting point for people who aren’t familiar with the Metroid series.

Are you pumped to play?  Metroid: Other M will release August 31st, 2010 exclusive to Nintendo Wii.

Epic Mickey Opening Movie August 19, 2010

The opening cinematic to Disney’s Epic Mickey (or at least part of it) has been released at Gamescom.

The attention to detail on the art style and animation is very reminsant of many of the classic Mickey Mouse cartoons. Take a look at this yourself and tell me it doesn’t make you feel like a kid again. I can’t wait to see what this game has in store.

Epic Mickey is coming Holiday 2010 exclusive to the Nintendo Wii.

Portal 2 Release Date August 18, 2010

The sequel to the 2007 PC Game of the Year has a release date.  Portal 2 was orignianlly scheduled for a release this fall, but was delayed to next year becuase “making games is hard.”  Well now there is a new release date for the game again.

Portal 2 will release February 9th, 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Infamous 2 Gamescom Trailer August 17, 2010

Sucker Punch has released a new trailer today for the upcoming Infamous 2.

It’s nice to see them restore Cole to his original appearance.  I have no idea what prompted the complete redesign of his character, espessially given that you can really get connected to a character’s appearance when you play through a whole game.  On a side note, the guy looks identical to my sister’s boyfriend.  Seriously.

Infamous 2 is coming exclusively to Playstation 3.

Resistance 3 Announced August 17, 2010

The Resistance series has been a staple of Sony’s console since the launch day of the Playstation 3.  The original game, Resistance: Fall of Man, was the launch day killer app of the PS3 back in 2006, and its sequel Resistance 2, released around the same time as Xbox 360 big wig Gears of War 2, was able to hold its own and offer players a new experience.

Insomniac Games has announced Resistance 3 today in Germany at GamesCom.

Resistance 3 will come in 2011 exclusive to Playstation 3.

Dragon Age II Trailer August 17, 2010

Dead Space 2 Trailer August 17, 2010

EA finally got done twiddling their thumbs after several months and posted up their most recent trailer for Dead Space 2.

This is mostly a bunch of snippets from their live E3 demos, but those demos were so awesome I don’t mind one bit.  You can see some new enemies, new weapons, and new armor for Issac here, on top of some of the new settings he’ll be traveling through, including the Unitologist Church (Unitologist Churches scare the hell out of me).

Dead Space 2 is coming to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 January 25th, 2011.  PS3 version will include an HD version of Dead Space Extraction for Playstation Move.

New Halo Reach ViDoc from Convention August 17, 2010

Germany is a long way away from where I am, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting all the news coming out of it.  Bungie released a new ViDoc from Halo Reach today, called “A Spartan Will Rise” and you can check it out right here.

It’s nice to hear Jen Taylor back in action as Cortana, and we finally get to see the famous Dr. Halsey in a Halo game.  She was an essential character to the Halo fiction presented in the books, and she has been seen in the Halo Legends movie, but this is her first game appearance.

This one reminds me a lot of a similar ViDoc, I believe it was “Desperate Measures”, for Halo 3 ODST where Nathan Fillion introduced all the new members of the ODST squad.

Halo Reach is coming Sepetember 14th, 2010 only for the Xbox 360.

Halo Waypoint Coming to Windows Phone 7 August 17, 2010

I make it no secret my favorite feature of the Xbox 360 is the Halo Waypoint. It’s not even a year old and it’s been giving me a huge incentive to dust off my old Halo games and get achievements I missed out on.

Well the it was announced tonight on Xbox live, the popular software is coming to Windows Phone 7.

You’ll be able to log in to your live account, track your waypoint awards, read the latest news, and stream all the exclusive waypoint videos all from your phone, the same day the phone releases, at no charge.

Unfortunately this is only coming to Windows Phone 7 right now, even though after getting a look at it I’m sure a Droid or iPhone could run it.

Anyone having Live Anywhere flashbacks? There is currently no release date for Windows Phone 7.

Post Quakecon id Software News August 16, 2010

Well Quakecon is pretty much a wrap right now, but there’s still plenty of information coming out of it about id Software’s current projects.

Doom 4, the unfortunate no show of the event, is likely to get a cross platform release, for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.  Now the last information I heard about Doom 4 indicated that it was going to use Tech 5, the same engine that powers Rage, but whereas Rage is going to be locked at 60FPS (across all platforms), because Doom 4 is going to tax Tech 5 even more than Rage will the game will be a 30FPS game.  Doom 4 still has no release date.

I also read some news about id’s mobile division.  Now I had previously reported that Rage will see an iPhone version, but it’s recently been added that Quake Live (the online browser version of Quake 3 Arena) is being ported to the iPhone as well.  Great news, Quake 3 Arena is a staple of multiplayer deathmatch.  No release dates on those games either, the iPhone is notorious for having a “one second it’s not there, the next it is” reputation.
