God of War: Ascension 1.03 Patch Notes March 27, 2013

The third patch for God of War: Ascension has been released, bringing the game up to version 1.03.  The patch is a bit controversial as it tweaks the difficulty of the Trials of Archimedes segment in the single player campaign.  There were some people complaining online about how difficult that particular section was, especially on the higher difficulty settings, and so the patch tweaks that segment just a bit.

The patch is small and shouldn’t take too long to install if you’ve already installed the previous two patches.  It will download and install automatically the next time you play the game, provided your PS3 is connected to the internet when you load the game.

Halo 4 Multiplayer: Past, Present and Future PAX East 2013 Panel March 25, 2013

For those unable to go to the Penny Arcade Expo in Boston, MA this weekend, here’s a small piece of that event that you can check out.  Several members of 343 Industries, Certain Affinity and Rooster Teeth did a panel on Halo 4’s Multiplayer.  Just like the title says, they talk about its past, present and its future.

If you are a fan of Halo and are interested to hear all about Halo 4’s multiplayer, give it a watch!

Bioshock Infinite Launch Trailer March 25, 2013

One day away from it’s launch, Irrational Games has released the official launch trailer for Bioshock Infinite.  The early reviews are in for this game and it’s looking that this will be one heck of a release to cap off the past two months of non-stop major game releases.  If you needed one last major look to hold you over before this game comes out, here it is.  Take a look for yourselves.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Launch Trailer March 22, 2013

Two days away from its launch, Nintendo has released the official launch trailer for the 3DS exclusive game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon.  The game is a 3D sequel to the Nintendo GameCube title Luigi’s Mansion.  In it, the player takes control of Mario’s brother, Luigi, who has to investigate a spooky mansion haunted by malevolent and mischievous spirits while armed with the most powerful ghostbusting equipment he can get his hands on, a Nintendo DS and a Vacuum Cleaner.

Here’s the game’s official TV commercial.  I thought it really harkened back to some of the great Nintendo commercials of the past twenty years.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is coming March 24th, 2013 exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS.  If you’re checking out PAX East 2013 this weekend, I have heard that convention goers have a chance of picking it up a few days early.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut Release Date March 22, 2013

A few years ago, I caught a video produced by The Spoony One just before he left for that year’s E3.  He did a short Let’s Play of the opening of a game I wasn’t familiar with at the time.  The game was called Deadly Premonition and it was a very interesting game which took the staple conventions of horror and put its own twist on it.

Seeing Spoony’s Let’s Play of the game before being exposed to some more famous games that would be considered staples of console horror like Silent Hill 2, I didn’t know what to make of the game at the time.  Now, having played those games, I got all the more appreciation for Deadly Premonition, and sought it out.  I actually picked up the original version of the game on the Xbox 360.

Now, developer Rising Star Games has announced that they are working on Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut, which will update the original game and feature entirely new features and scenes for the game and it is coming exclusively to the Playstation 3.  Rising Star Games has also hinted to the possibility of more things coming to the game via DLC.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is coming out April 26th, 2013 in Europe and April 30th, 2013 in North America exclusively on the PS3.  Don’t forget, you can get the non Director’s Cut of the game on the Xbox 360.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX PAX East 2013 Trailer March 21, 2013

I mentioned some time ago that Kingdom Hearts was being remade and rereleased exclusively for the Playstation 3, and now we have the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX in honor of PAX East 2013.  On top of the HD visuals, widescreen support, higher resolution textures and new features that were previously only seen in Japan, the remastered game will include the Final Mix version of the original Kingdom Hearts game, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and a never before seen remastered version of all the cinematics to the Nintendo DS exclusive game Kingdom Hearts 365/2 Days.

Here’s the game’s latest trailer, fresh off the game’s Japanese release.  Square Enix promises it should be coming to North America this fall.

I’ve noticed a lot of people online comment about a very distinctive line in the game’s trailer, “When your sleeping memories awaken, you may no longer be who you are now.” This quote is spoken by the character Axel (the man with red hair wearing a black robe).  Many people have commented that this line is some sort of error or mistranslation, and don’t think it belongs in the game but I can assure you having played the game series that the line does make perfect sense within the game’s context.  Axel is alluding to the condition of amnesia, and saying that someone who may have lost their memories may become someone entirely different if their memories should ever return.  Given Axel’s backstory and the organization he works for, this is a very important line.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX is coming Fall 2013 exclusive to the Playstation 3.

PS3 Firmware 4.40 Released March 21, 2013

Sony has just released a new update to the Playstation 3 today in the form of Firmware 4.40.  No release notes were included with the update and no new features are listed to be included with it, so it is likely that the update only contains some minor bug fixes and updates behind the scenes.

You can download Firmware 4.40 through your PS3’s System Update feature in the PS3’s settings menu.  The new firmware is required to access the Playstation Network.

iOS 6.1.3 Released March 21, 2013

An incremental update was released today for various devices running iOS 6.1, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.  The update fixes a vulnerability in the device’s lock screen, and may offer some other minor bug fixes.

Be sure to check the Software Update feature of your device in the General Menu in the Settings app to see if your device is compatible with the update to download it over a WiFi connection.  If you don’t have a WiFi connection, you can sync your device to iTunes and select the option to Check for Updates during the iTunes sync process if you prefer to update your device while it is connected to your computer.  An iPhone 4 updating on its own without a computer took less than a half hour to download and install.

Bioshock Infinite TV Commercial March 20, 2013

For those of you who may be watching TV this week, you may have seen this commercial hit the airwaves.  Less than a week away from the game’s release, here is the complete, uncut version of the TV Commercial for Bioshock Infinite.  While it doesn’t seem to include any direct gameplay footage, it looks like it captures the spirit of the game’s story.  I can’t wait to see if this scene, or a scene like it, is included in the final version of the game.  Its graphic, emotional and just plain awesome.

What’s interesting to note is that the commercial does state that the complete version of the original Bioshock is being included with the PS3 version of the game. I don’t think that had been mentioned prior to this.

God of War: Ascension Rise of the Warrior Codes Released March 20, 2013

Spartans and Trojans, hear me.  Prior to the release of God of War: Ascension, Sony had a special promotion running on their official website called Rise of the Warrior.  On the site, you could read a special comic series by artist Christopher Shy, answer some riddles, and post your progress on Twitter and Facebook for special points.  New chapters were being released on a regular basis, and Sony promised that all of their users who participated in the game would be able to redeem special weapons and armor that was unique to the game depending on how many points they accumulated by the end of the promotion.  Well, the promotion ended last night, but for those of you who played, you’ll be happy to know that all of the unlockable content offered been released and can be redeemed right now if you’ve earned it.

If you participated in Rise of the Warrior, you’ll just need to log into the Official Website and copy down your unique Playstation Store download code.  You’ll need a Playstation Network account and access to the Playstation Store to redeem your code.  Once the code is redeemed, the content will simply unlock, you will not need to download anything to your PS3.
