The Phantom Pain at GDC 2013 March 15, 2013

Last night, Geoff Keighley did an interview with the man who claimed to be the director of the highly anticipated game, The Phantom Pain, which was announced at Spike’s Video Game Awards Show at the end of last year.  For some reason, the man he was interviewing, who claimed to be Joakim Mogren, had his entire face bandaged up, very similar to the game’s main character.  He claimed he had been in an accident, and that he should be fine by the time of this year’s Game Developer’s Conference.

To prove his identity, he showed Keighley some never before seen images of the game on his iPad.  After taking a close look at the screenshots, Geoff noticed that they bore the watermark of the FOX Engine, the same engine being developed at Konami that is powering Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.  This seems to confirm something that I had speculated earlier.

Mogren said he was going to be at this year’s GDC during the interview, however after having personally checked the current GDC schedule, there doesn’t seem to be any panel or event on the official schedule which lists The Phantom Pain, Mogren, or it’s developer, Moby Dick Studios.  However, Hideo Kojima’s team is scheduled to present the FOX Engine Wednesday at 11PST.

Could this be the proof that The Phantom Pain is in fact the next Metal Gear Solid game?  Well, it seems that all will be revealed at this year’s GDC.  You can watch the entire interview with Joakim Mogren here on GameTrailers.com.
