If you’re in the Orlando, Florida or Hollywood, California area this month and feel like taking a trip to Silent Hill, Universal Studios has you covered.

Universal Studios is running its yearly Halloween Horror Nights promotion at its parks in the days leading up to Halloween. They have totally redressed the park for night time visitors, adding some scary exhibits and monsters that will be going through the crowds.

Each of the haunted trails they will be featuring has a unique theme. Some are more classic, like a look at the Universal Monster movies, others are more modern, like a trail based on the AMC series The Walking Dead.

But what will probably interest gamers the most is that they are devoting an entire haunted experience to people based off of Silent Hill and it will be in the Hollywood and the Orlando theme parks. Yes, that means we’ll be able to explore Silent Hill for real, at least for a short time.

The people who made this exhibit said they did it as fans of the property. They also said that the inspiration behind it came from all the various incarnations of Silent Hill, so if you’re a fan of the games, or just a fan of the movies, without a doubt you’ll see something you recognize.

The Halloween Horror Nights will be going on up to October 31st. You can check out all the details and ticket information on the Halloween Horror Nights Official Website.

UPDATE:  Here’s the official trailer for the event.

As you know, I have a very long history with the Metal Gear Solid series.  The Nintendo 3DS has seen its share of classic games get 3D remakes and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater is one of those games.  Originally released in 2004 for the PS2, this was the first game to feature Naked Snake, and served as a prequel to the earlier Metal Gear Solid games.

Now, with Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes announced recently, I decided to take another look at the first game to feature Naked Snake, in full 3D.

Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater is out now exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS.

Straight from Konami’s Gamers Night event in San Francisco, here is the official launch trailer for the next game in the Silent Hill series, Silent Hill: Book of Memories for the Playstation Vita.

From the looks of it, they’re going some place entirely new with this title, even though the art style and atmosphere look very much like a classic Silent Hill game.  It looks like they’re bring all new gameplay capabilities to the series that we haven’t seen before with this game, like the ability to play four-player co-op, and full character customization.  It also looks like they’re tapping into the features of the Vita, like the touch screens.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is coming October 16th, 2012 exclusive to the Playstation Vita.

For the first time ever in a Halo game, the Flood will be playable in multiplayer.  Flood Mode is a new imagining of the invasion gametype, and will pit SPARTAN survivors armed with shotguns and grenades against Flood-infected players armed only with melee attacks.  Like invasion, if a SPARTAN is killed by a Flood-infected player, they will join the Flood, changing their player model and armor effect to more closely match the Flood’s single-player appearance.

The mode will support ten players.  Rounds will last 3:00 or until the final SPARTAN player is killed.

You can read all the details about the gametype, as well as all the new Flood-exclusive multiplayer medals here.

Well, looks like we’ll be fighting the Flood once more.

Halo 4 is coming November 6th, 2012 exclusive to the Xbox 360.  Remember guys, the first episode of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will be released tomorrow.

Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir Unboxing October 3, 2012

Keeping with our theme of scary games for the month of October, Maniac unboxes a unique game in the 3DS library, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir.  Based off the Fatal Frame series, Spirit Camera turns the Nintendo 3DS into the Camera Obscura and allows you to investigate a very special book that is included with the game package, the Diary of Faces.

A few side notes about the game that were brought up in the video.  There was a short horror film produced as part of a viral campaign for the game prior to its release.  It served to make game which already focused on augmented reality seem all the more real.  I like when the line between reality and game is blurred like this.  This was the version done for North America.

Apparently there is a Japanese short film as well.

Secondly, the preview event that was referenced did get promotional coverage of it on Nintendo Show 3D, which is a bi-weekly 3D video series on the Nintendo eShop.  For those of you who don’t have a 3DS and as such no access to the show, here’s the clip of the Spirit Camera event downsampled to glorious 2D.

Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir is out now exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS.  You can expect a review soon.

Maniac took a look at the shrinkwrap for a new copy of Metal Gear Solid 3D for the 3DS and thought it looked a bit like Konami was cutting costs.. That plus the recent announcements at Konami made, like the decision to not release Metal Gear Rising: Revengance on the Xbox 360 in Japan or release any further updates for Silent Hill HD Collection on the 360 made him wonder just what is going on at Konami?
