Playstation Vita Cases Announced, Sounds Familiar October 13, 2011

This week, Sony has started to show off some optional carrying cases for the upcoming Playstation Vita handheld. They have gotten quite a bit of positive press.

I guess I’m the only one who remembers when Sony flirted with the idea to create a whole line of designer gaming handheld cases by international fashion icons. Well, I guess I only remember because I actually had one of them.

For a while, Sony contemplated with having actual fashion designers make bags for the then recently released Playstation Portable. Some famous international fashion designers then mocked up some prototypes and showed them at what I’m sure was a star-studded gala. They were never sold however, and pretty much everyone just stuck with the protective sleeve that came with the PSPs as they worked just great. The prototype bags were given away to Playstation Gamer Advisory Panel members in a giveaway, which is where I got that one.

No, I don’t still have the bag, I gave it to an ex while we were dating quite a few years ago. I inquired what she did with it recently when I determined what the history of the bag was. She said she still has it. I can’t determine what the value on it is, but there was a genuine label on it by a famous designer well known in England.

What are the odds Sony might try something like this again with the Playstation Vita?
