The first gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, has been released.  This new trailer intercuts in-game cutscenes with actual gameplay footage played over a licenced song and it is just fantastic.

New characters making their first video debuts for the game include Catwoman and Two-Face.  Of course you also get to see snippets of Harley Quinn, The Joker and Dr. Hugo Strange.

The gameplay looks almost identical to how the first game played, however there is the added bonus of the larger percentage of outdoor enviroments than there were in the first game.  From what I’m seeing in the trailer, Batman’s glide is more important than ever.

I combed through the trailer a few times and didn’t catch any snippets of the Riddler even though he has been confirmed to make an appearance in the game.  That dissapointed me because I have heard musings that there as a Riddler teaser trailer shown to the press during PAX.  If that does surface I’ll be sure to post that up too.

Batman: Arkham City is coming October 18th, 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
