Announced and demoed at Quakecon today, aversion of Rage was shown on the iPhone 4. id Software really seems to be interested in using their new IP.
The game currently runs at 60fps, and has graphics that attendees said rivals that of the Xbox and PS2. There will be two versions avalible, the one that comes out first will just show off the technology and the other will be a full game.
The game was demoed on iPhone 4, but it should be compatable with iPhone 3GS. Looks like I have a reason to upgrade my phone.
Quakecon 2010 Has Begun August 12, 2010

Today marks the start of Quakecon 2010, the very first one where id Software is no longer an independent software company.
Last year, it was promised that Doom 4 and Rage would make an appearance, with Quake Live being played quite a bit along the way.
Quakecon was originally started by fans to be the biggest gathering of Quake players so they could play without latency, but was taken over by id Software, where they show their upcoming games on top of the massive LAN.
You can be sure I’ll be reporting as much as I can on the events as they come in.
SDCC Halo Universe Panel August 11, 2010

One of the other panels at San Diego Comic Con was the Halo Universe panel. This panel focused mostly not on the game related aspects of Halo but actually the other aspects such as the books or the recently released anime.
Its impressive that one game series that’s only been in existance for nine years has branched into almost every aspect of our culture. Granted, the majority of the branching didn’t start taking place until only a few years ago (I would say it really started taking off after the release of the Halo Graphic Novel) but most game series have never seen the exposure Halo has had.
In fact I remember Greg Bear (featured in the panel) mentioned in the Halo Legends documentary (on the SE DVD and Blu-Ray) he usually writes for franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, the fact that the next franchise he’s going to write for is Halo is really telling that maybe video games are where the next major franchises are going to come from.
SDCC Halo Reach Panel August 11, 2010

There really hasn’t been that much gaming related news to speak of over the past few days, which has been really dissapointing.
Since I wasn’t able to attend San Diego Comic-Con since I live on the other side of the country, I wasn’t able to attend on any of the gaming-related panels, even though I reported on whatever I could at the time from here.
I did find this however, the Halo Reach Panel from San Diego Comic Con was videotaped and put online for all to see. It’s also been posted up on the Halo Waypoint, so you can watch it on your Xb0x 360s.
It is quite a funny panel, and you get to see some content the ViDoc did not include, like what it’s like to play Firefight alongside the enemy waves, and you also see one of the players strategy to defeat his opponent was *ahem* (singing) try to kill him with a forklift.
You also get a much better look at the Forge World map, and a really good look at the improved Forge toolset.
Halo Reach will be out September 14th, 2010 for Xbox 360.
Halofest, One Day Later August 7, 2010

I attended the Halofest last night at one of my local GameStops, and let me tell you it was quite an adventure, well the getting there was quite the adventure, the event itself was pretty low key.
After 9 o’clock the store closed (officially) and they started letting people in to watch the show. The show was a 30 minute broadcast through GameStop TV’s feed. It was broken up into a single segment and looped three times over the course of the night. This was pretty considerate for people like me who got every single red light between my home and the GameStop and came in a few minutes late.
There were two giveaways last night as well. There was a text to win event (which has since been deactivated, it was only good between the times of the event) where you could win the Halo Reach full sized statue shown at E3, and there was a local contest where you could win a copy of the Legendary Edition of Halo Reach (one winner per store).
As for the substance of the video content of the night, well there were a few positives. Rooster Teeth posted the video they made especially for the night, you can enjoy it as much as I did.
There was also a pretty funny video of TSquared trying to break into 343 Industries (wrong place genius, you’re supposed to be breaking into Bungie) like Solid Snake in a cardboard box. When he fails he’s just let inside by Frankie.
Things I learned from the event. Well unfortunately most of the content was multiplayer strategies, to a person not so much interested in multiplayer, there was very little single player information provided that we didn’t already know. I did however learn that the new firefight modes will have a versus mode, enabling you to play as Covenant or Spartans against your friends or in matchmaking. The cool part is that at halftime you can switch teams.
I also caught what appeared to be a new weapon called the Target Locator. It reminded me a lot of the Ion Painter and Hammer of Dawn, in that it fires a harmless laser which when fully targeted will bring down a rain of destruction from orbit in the form of tons of rockets. Perfect for taking out Phantoms.
The downside of the night? Age discrimination is alive and well it seems. GameStop was throwing out everyone who didn’t have a form of identification on them. My neighbor, who helped me get Recon in Halo 3, was turned away immediately. You would’ve thought we were going into some kind of bar.
You can also check out Halo Reach‘s official GameStop website here. Hopefully more content will be posted up.
Oh and by the way everyone, Halo Reach was confirmed Gold yesterday, which means it’s complete. The game for some reason is still scheduled for release September 14th, 2010, it’s not going to need 39 days to manufacture, manufacturing takes about two weeks, even for large quantities. Release it early, Microsoft.
The Long Road to Recon August 6, 2010

After picking up Halo 3 ODST I was obsessed with using it to get the highly desired Recon Armor, and doing it the fair way, by completing all seven of the VidMaster challenges.
Recon Armor is the highest honor that can be given to a Halo 3 player. It is special armor originally only for Bungie employees and only given to people under the radar for going above and beyond merely playing Halo. Previous recipients include people who beat Bungie employees at their own game (literally) and a couple who had a Halo themed wedding.
It took 10 months, as long as a year of college (sans summer) to do it, but on August 4th, 2010 my multiplayer character was awarded Recon Armor. This is the story of how I got it, the ups the downs, the good parts and the parts where I lost all hope. Enjoy the video about the greatest accomplishment I ever received in my life (and I am a college graduate).
Enjoy the very first gameXcess.net video in 1080p HD! Thanks to all those who helped me out!
For those of you unaware of Recon or what the VidMaster achievements are, here’s an informational video. Hopefully it’ll help you as it helped me.

Batman: Arkham City Coming Fall 2011 August 5, 2010
Posted by Maniac in Game News.add a comment
The highly anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, last summer’s multi-platform hit, finally has a name, and it’s Batman: Arkham City.
Where in Batman: Arkham Asylum the game was confined to a persistent world within Arkham Asylum itself, Batman: Arkham City will be expanding on that world. The Asylum’s doors have been expanded, and sections of Gotham City is now considered part of Arkham. Batman will have to fight their way through it encountering many famous faces from his rogues gallery. The Joker has been seen already (recovering from the events of the first game) but other villains have been hinted (although not officially confirmed) including Catwoman and Two-Face.
Batman: Arkham City is coming Fall 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
